    This position has a remote option. Candidates will be expected to be on-site for the first few months for training before moving to remote work. Following the on-site training period, the candidate will have intermittent on-site requirements as needed.

     

    The Director of Artificial Intelligence leads the strategy, development, and responsible deployment of AI solutions across the healthcare enterprise. This role ensures that AI initiatives improve patient outcomes, clinician efficiency, operational performance, and financial sustainability while meeting strict regulatory, ethical, and safety standards.

     

    The Director partners closely with clinical leaders, compliance, legal, data, and IT teams to identify high-value use cases and translate advanced AI capabilities into scalable, trusted solutions within a regulated healthcare environment.

    Key Responsibilities AI Strategy & Governance

    + Define and execute the enterprise AI strategy aligned with organizational goals, clinical priorities, and regulatory requirements.

    + Establish AI governance frameworks addressing model risk management, validation, bias mitigation, explainability, and ongoing monitoring.

    + Serve as the executive owner for responsible AI practices, ensuring ethical and safe use of AI in clinical and operational settings.

    AI Development & Deployment

    + Lead design, development, and deployment of AI/ML solutions including:

    + Clinical decision support

    + Medical imaging and diagnostics

    + Population health and risk stratification

    + Revenue cycle and fraud, waste, and abuse detection

    + Operational optimization and patient access

    + Oversee model lifecycle management including data preparation, training, validation, deployment, monitoring, and retraining.

    + Ensure AI solutions integrate seamlessly with EHRs and operational systems.

    Clinical & Business Partnership

    + Collaborate with physicians, nurses, care teams, and operational leaders to identify and prioritize AI use cases.

    + Translate clinical and business needs into AI requirements and measurable success metrics.

    + Communicate AI capabilities, limitations, and outcomes clearly to clinical and executive audiences.

    Data, Technology & Security

    + Partner with data engineering and IT teams to ensure high-quality, secure, and interoperable data pipelines.

    + Ensure AI platforms comply with HIPAA, HITECH, FDA, CMS, and state regulations where applicable.

    + Evaluate and select AI platforms, tools, cloud services, and vendor solutions.

    Team & Vendor Leadership

    + Build, mentor, and lead multidisciplinary teams including data scientists, ML engineers, clinical informaticists, and product managers.

    + Manage external AI vendors, research partners, and academic collaborations.

    + Drive innovation while maintaining operational rigor and risk management.

    KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Health Informatics, or related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).

    + 10+ years of experience in data science, AI, or advanced analytics, with 5+ years in leadership roles.

    + Healthcare experience in provider, payer, life sciences, or digital health environments.

    + Hands-on knowledge of ML techniques (e.g., supervised/unsupervised learning, NLP, computer vision).

    + Experience deploying AI models in production environments.

    + Strong understanding of healthcare data sources (EHR, imaging, claims, wearable, and patient-generated data).

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Experience with FDA-regulated software as a medical device (SaMD).

    + Familiarity with FHIR, HL7, ICD-10, CPT, SNOMED, and LOINC.

    + Experience with generative AI and large language models in healthcare use cases.

    + Knowledge of MLOps, model monitoring, and explainable AI.

    + Experience in value-based care or population health analytics.

    EDUCATION:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Health Informatics, or related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
