Position Summary:

TheElementary School Counselorwill serve as a lead advocate for our TK–4 students at bothPrairie WestandShell Rock Elementary. Operating in a dynamic partnership with the counselor at North Ridge Elementary, you will collaborate to provide comprehensive social, emotional, and academic support. This role is designed for a proactive leader who thrives on building strong relationships with students, parents, and staff across multiple buildings to ensure a consistent and high-quality counseling program for our youngest learners.

Essential Functions and Expectations:

+ Work to discover and develop special abilities of students.

+ Work to promote regular attendance, leadership behaviors and positive relationships with all students.

+ Provide individual counseling and facilitate small groups.

+ Provide weekly classroom lessons to our students.

+ Provide crisis intervention and support as well as make referrals to outside agencies.

+ Communicate and collaborate with parents on a regular basis.

+ Promote the purpose and the use of the Pit Stop as a calm space to regulate and/or complete tasks.

+ Address social and emotional issues that affect a student’s well-being.

+ Collaborate with the school team to implement programs and interventions to assist students.

+ Be a positive role model and actively contribute to reaching our school-wide goals and initiatives.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education and Licensure:

+ Master’s degree in School Counseling from an accredited institution of higher education

+ Iowa teaching license or professional service license with endorsement 172
