As an Automation Engineer for Final Assembly, you will be responsible for identifying applications where automation tooling solutions are feasible within final assembly. You will provide essential content to study leads for funding approvals and collaborate with layout engineers to integrate tooling into cycle line layouts. You will join a diverse and highly capable team that engages with multiple key organizations to deliver new automation enablers. In Final Assembly Engineering, you will have the opportunity to explore your creativity and leverage extensive developmental capabilities to achieve unprecedented outcomes.
Responsibilities
+ Design, implement, and optimize automation cells to enhance manufacturing operations.
+ Develop manufacturing process flows and optimization strategies to achieve efficiency improvements.
+ Collaborate with key stakeholders, including suppliers, product teams, and controls departments, to solve automation and processing issues.
+ Support tooling design and build with the supplier interface team.
+ Study new programs and cost new automated cell standardized equipment.
+ Develop tooling SOW and issue purchase orders for automated cell equipment.
+ Provide launch support for automation equipment.
+ Create new standards for automation.
+ Program and troubleshoot collaborative and industrial robots, incorporating simulation, tool design, and path planning.
+ Facilitate design review sessions and lead PFMEA activities to identify and mitigate risks in the manufacturing process.
+ Prepare and deliver technical presentations and demonstrations for leadership and program team reviews.
+ Collaborate with teams at MTD, MP&L, VOME, and other stakeholders to identify, define, and validate requirements and KPIs for automated processes.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in PLC programming, particularly with Siemens and Allen-Bradley.
+ Experience in manufacturing operations, especially in general and final assembly.
+ Project management experience in procurement, installation, and commissioning of automation equipment.
+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
+ Proven experience in manufacturing engineering and automation, including CAD design, robot programming, and tooling design.
+ Proficiency in CAD software such as Inventor, CATIA, or similar.
+ Experience with robot simulation and assembly automation.
+ Strong problem-solving skills.
+ Ability to work well with cross-functional teams to develop consensus.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Previous project management experience.
+ Prototype design and development experience.
+ Ability to program PLCs, particularly with Siemens and Fanuc robotics.
+ Experience working with Tier 1 OEM suppliers and partners.
Work Environment
The position will be on-site at the Product Development Center. Extensive travel will be required in 6-8 months to the Kentucky area to follow the tooling that has been procured and assist with commissioning and start-up. Travel will typically be for 11-13 days at a time, followed by a long weekend at home. You will work on a team of 4-6 other engineers, with a business casual dress code.

This is a Contract position based out of Dearborn, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $55.00/hr.
