    Job Summary:

    Position Description

    The Department of Neuroscience at The University of Texas at Dallas seeks to hire a Research Professor to execute and oversee all aspects of medical device clinical trials conducted at the Texas Biomedical Device Center (TxBDC). Responsibilities include: defining and executing the clinical research for TxBDC’s device development, focusing on neuromodulation and neuroplasticity; leading the design, implementation, and execution of complex clinical trials, including FDA -regulated protocols for devices treating stroke, PTSD , spinal cord injury, and TBI ; bridging scientific discovery with clinical application to ensure research moves from lab concept to scalable patient treatments; recruiting, mentoring, and leading clinical research staff and collaborators; ensuring all clinical research activities meet stringent regulatory standards (e.g. IRB and FDA ) and internal quality benchmarks; cultivating relationships with regulatory bodies, funding agencies, and academic partners; contributing to and overseeing innovative clinical research to improve recovery from serious neurological and psychiatric conditions, and publishing research findings in top-tier academic journals.

     

    The appointment commences for the spring 2026 semester.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum Education and Experience: (1) Board-certified MD with 15 + years of practicing neurology, psychiatry, emergency medicine, or physical medicine and rehabilitation and current Texas Medical License; (2) Experience serving as a principal investigator on FDA -regulated clinical trials with class three devices; (3) An active research program with current (or strong potential for) extramural funding and publications in highly regarded peer-reviewed journals. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.

     

    Preferred Education and Experience: Master’s degree in Clinical Science with formal training in ethics, study design, observational studies, randomized trials, clinical epidemiology, biostatistics, and scientific communication, including manuscript and grant writing. Experience preparing FDA Investigational Device Exemptions (IDEs) and Investigational New Drug ( IND ) applications is preferred.

    The Neuroscience Department is made up of 21 research faculty members and 10 instructional faculty members with an extensive amount of extramural funding and robust output of annual publications. It is home to the Systems and Cellular Neuroscience PhD program track with over 50 current students and the Neuroscience undergraduate BS degree with approximately 1,000 students; the latter is the 5th largest and one of the most sought-after undergraduate degree programs on the UT Dallas campus. It is also part of the Applied Cognition and Neuroscience Master’s Program with over 150 students.

     

    The Department is housed in a cutting-edge research building that contains state-of-the-art laboratory space and top-notch core facilities. Faculty in Neuroscience are active participants in several research centers including the Center for Advanced Pain Studies, Texas Biomedical Device Center, Center for BrainHealth, Center for Vital Longevity, and Callier Center for Communication Disorders. Our Neuroscience faculty also have vibrant collaborations with the UT Dallas Program in Bioengineering and the UT Southwestern Medical Center.
