Astronics Advanced Electronic Systems** (AES) is seeking a **Technical Writer** or **Sr. Technical Writer** to join our collaborative Engineering Services Team in **Kirkland, WA.

This is an on-site position that offers flexibility to work from home part-time dependent on project needs.

JOB SUMMARY

Our technical writing team transforms complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and accurate content for the intended audience in the required format. We write Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs), Service Bulletins (SBs), Service Information Letters (SILs), user manuals, and other customer-facing documents to support new and sustaining products.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Write and edit technical content in Simplified Technical English (STE) for hardware and software products.

+ Research and translate technical information into content for nontechnical and technical users.

+ Conduct interviews with various subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather content for deliverables.

+ Produce deliverables that conform to internal department requirements and customer/ compliance requirements.

+ Review work of others for completion and adherence to requirements.

+ Actively participate in staff meetings and in internal department initiatives. May participate in cross-functional key initiatives.

+ Create and maintain internal tools, such as templates, notebooks, and usage guides. (Sr. Level)

+ Identify, create, write, and edit new internal department processes and management media documents (may be cross-functional). (Sr. Level).

+ Lead internal department initiatives (Sr. Level).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

+ Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communications, Human-Centered Design Engineering, English, or similar

+ Experience writing content that complies with ATA100, iSpec2200, or S1000D specifications for an Aerospace company a plus

+ Knowledge of markup languages, such as DITA, HTML, or CSS, a plus

+ Demonstrates **familiarity** - Typically 2 or more years of direct experience with the duties, responsibilities, competencies and technical skills for consideration as **Technical Writer** .

+ Demonstrates **proficiency** - Typically 5 or more years of direct experience with the duties, responsibilities, competencies and technical skills for consideration as **Sr. Technical Writer** .

+ **Time Management:** Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Technical Skills:

+ Microsoft Office suite software

+ Desktop publishing software (Adobe FrameMaker)

+ Graphics software (Adobe Creative Cloud), a plus

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

+ Must meet International **Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)** requirements as a **US Person** .

+ Employment contingent on passing a pre-employment background check and **drug test including cannabis screening** .

COMPENSATION

+ **Technical Writer Salary Range** (Non-exempt position): $29.00 ~ 44.00 per hour. (Mid-point: $36.00 per hour).

+ **Sr. Technical Writer Salary Range** (Exempt position): $79,293 - $118,940 per year. (Mid-point: $99,117 per year).

Factors such as experience, certifications, and market conditions will help determine your actual salary, with most new hires positioned closer to the mid-point.
