    The Department of UHealth Laboratories- IHL is currently seeking a Full-Time Sr. Medical Biller to work onsite in Miami. The incumbent in this position will process billing information in appropriate system and assists supervising staff in maintaining quality control of data by identifying potential problems and offering and implementing solutions.

    CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

    + Assists management with the training of new staff. Runs reports weekly on accounts and monitors to keep the contents at a minimum.

    + Verifies all claims and ensures edits are collected and released in a timely fashion.

    + Reports edits by billing area to managing staff on a monthly basis.

    + Verifies that all controls are followed so that no charges are missed.

    + Verifies all payment reconciliation processes are followed at the clinics.

    + Ensures that all charges are entered in a timely fashion.

    + Reviews encounters received for all pertinent information.

    + Coordinates the correction of inaccurate vouchers, and prints daily voucher report to reconcile all vouchers.

    + Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

    CORE QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    High School diploma or equivalent

    Experience:

    Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

    Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

    + Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.

    + Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

    + Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

    + Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

    + Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

    DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

    Department Specific Functions

    + Perform monthly comprehensive reviews of laboratory charges across UHealth Laboratories to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance prior to billing submission.

    + Research and validate individual laboratory cases, with a high concentration in Transplant Laboratory services, to confirm appropriate charge capture based on testing performed, clinical context, and client-specific agreements.

    + Ensure accurate billing to multiple internal and external clients, applying correct fee schedules, billing rules, and payer/client requirements.

    + Reconcile laboratory activity against source systems (e.g., LIS, billing platforms, requisitions, and financial reports) to identify and resolve discrepancies in charges, volumes, or client attribution.

    + Apply advanced knowledge of laboratory billing methodologies, CPT/HCPCS coding, modifiers, and transplant-specific billing nuances to ensure compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements.

    + Collaborate closely with laboratory leadership, technical staff, finance, and revenue cycle teams to clarify testing workflows, resolve charge questions, and address billing variances.

    + Investigate and resolve billing exceptions, denials, or delayed charges, including root-cause analysis and documentation of findings.

    + Support audit readiness by maintaining detailed documentation of charge reviews, billing decisions, and corrective actions.

    + Identify opportunities for process improvement in charge capture, billing accuracy, and reporting, and assist with implementation of standardized workflows as laboratories are unified under UHealth Laboratories.

    + Serve as a subject-matter expert for complex lab billing scenarios, particularly those involving transplant testing, multi-client billing structures, and non-routine cases.
