Summary Statement
Bring fun and adventure to Boise kids this summer! As Playcamp Staff, you’ll work with elementary youth across Boise’s outdoor parks, organizing daily schedules, leading games and activities, and creating a safe, positive, and engaging environment. From themed weekly games and STEM projects to field trips, pool days, and team-building activities, you’ll help campers make new friends, explore new experiences, and create lasting memories. This temporary, at-will summer position is open to applicants 16 years of age and older. If you love working with kids, enjoy being active outdoors, and want a summer full of fun and meaningful impact, this is the perfect role!
Essential Functions
+ Supervises youth for an outdoor summer camp located in one of the city's parks.
+ Organizes and leads daily games and activities for youth in a safe manner.
+ Assists in the creation of weekly playcamp curriculums.
+ Supervises youths during program hours.
+ Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Ability to:
+ Exercise independent judgment.
+ Work with different ability levels.
+ Interact with coworkers and the public in a friendly and professional manner.
+ Assist youth in pools on swim days.
+ Participate in mild to moderate recreational activities/sports.
+ Recognize and redirect misbehavior.
+ Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance.
+ Perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
+ Previous experience working or performing volunteer work with children.
+ Two years of experience volunteering or working with youth as a coach, instructor, teacher’s aide, or nanny.
+ Current Certification in CPR and First Aid.
Licensing And Other Requirements
+ Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification.
Special Requirements
Applicants must be able to pass:
+ City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation
+ Drug Free Workplace:
+ In accordance with the City of Boise Drug Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hire. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre-employment drug test.
+ This position is required to work directly with and oversee minors in the absence of their parent or guardian, or work directly with and oversee vulnerable adults in the absence of their caretaker or guardian.

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds and occasionally lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Also, the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds and occasionally pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. The noise level is frequently moderate and occasionally loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, runn, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.
Working Environment
The work environment will include outdoor weather conditions and in wet and humid conditions. Work includes protected exposure to bodily fluids. Work is performed in a park setting and the incumbent is occasionally exposed to insects and pets.
19-Hour Temporary
All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits.
4-Month Temporary
All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment.
8-Month Seasonal
In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage.
9-Month Temporary
In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
