    Job Title: I&C Design Engineer

    Type: 12-month Contract

    Compensation: $84 - $135 hourly

    Contractor Work Model: Remote

    Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled I&C Design Engineer for a long-term contract opportunity, with a remote work model. This pivotal role involves system design, prototype development, and testing, plant-level system integration, and commissioning within the Sodium Fast Reactor domain. You will collaborate with a team of talented scientists and engineers while reporting directly to the Non-Safety I&C Manager.

    Key Responsibilities:

+ Project Management: Oversee projects with competing design objectives and constraints, effectively resolving conflicts to ensure project success.

+ System Design and Documentation: Develop and review system- and component-level specifications, including scopes of work, technical documents (e.g., System Requirements Documents, System Design Descriptions), and drawing packages (e.g., P&IDs, control system architecture).

+ Instrumentation and Control: Identify, specify, and integrate custom instrumentation with advanced control systems for Generation IV nuclear reactor technologies. Assess and describe the suitability of instrumentation measurement techniques tailored to sodium fast reactor and energy storage technologies.

+ Technical Oversight: Provide technical direction and oversight on supplier projects, ensuring compliance with rigorous standards and timelines. Facilitate the coordination and performance of technical reviews for deliverables.

+ Collaboration: Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams, integrating I&C with the efforts of engineers, scientists, and subject matter experts.

+ Regulatory Compliance: Analyze and apply regulatory criteria, including nuclear codes and standards, NRC regulations, and assist in licensing activities related to Safety Analysis Reports.

+ Continuous Improvement: Champion best practices within the nuclear industry, proactively identifying opportunities for process enhancements.

    Key Qualifications and Skills:

+ Education: B.S. or higher degree in Controls, Electrical, or a related discipline from an accredited university.

+ Experience: Minimum 15 years of direct experience in instrumentation and controls systems design. Higher education will count towards years of experience.

+ Domain Expertise: Experience in I&C development and diagnostics; prior work with nuclear reactor safety or instrumentation systems is a plus, though not mandatory.

+ Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with IEEE and IEC standards; knowledge of nuclear power plant quality assurance practices (e.g., 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, ASME NQA-1) highly desirable.

+ Technical Skills: Proficient in CAD software tools (e.g., AutoCAD Standard, AutoCAD Electrical, or SolidWorks) for design deliverables. Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills are essential.

+ Interpersonal Skills: Strong leadership capabilities in coordinating and directing multi-disciplinary design teams with minimal supervision. A self-starter attitude is crucial, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

+ Attention to Detail: A commitment to technical excellence, integrity, and fostering a collaborative team environment.

    Benefits and Career Development:

+ Competitive Compensation: We offer a competitive pay structure commensurate with experience and qualifications.

+ Professional Growth: Engage in innovative projects that contribute to the future of sustainable energy while working alongside industry experts.

+ Impactful Work: Play a key role in shaping advanced nuclear energy solutions, contributing to global energy advancements and safety.

    Physical Requirements:

+ Ability to perform tasks involving sitting and/or standing for extended periods, with light physical exertion (lifting up to 25 pounds).

+ Visual and auditory focus for prolonged periods in a standard working environment.

    Travel Requirements: Minimal (0-5%).
