Job Description Summary
The Department of Pathobiology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Professor of Practice Poultry Health Veterinarian. This will be a term appointment, annually renewable as Professor of Practice. Applications received by February 1, 2026 will receive optimal consideration; however, the position will remain open until filled.
The successful candidate will be expected to serve as expert and resource on the healthcare and wellbeing of poultry, primarily for the Alabama poultry industry to include integrators, growers, and allied industries. Providing state and regional leadership through development of a nationally recognized extension program in poultry health will be undertaken. For this, he/she will interact and collaborate with numerous stakeholders including poultry industry veterinarians and personnel, allied industry veterinarians, the Alabama Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory System, and the State Veterinarian’s office to identify problems and provide practical solutions to health issues affecting the Alabama poultry industry. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in research and scholarship, primarily through relationship building and correspondence among the aforementioned stakeholders and research- and extension-oriented faculty in the Department of Pathobiology, the Department of Poultry Science, the National Poultry Technology Center, and related disciplines. The successful candidate will also contribute to the instruction of residents in the American College of Poultry Veterinarians training program in the Department of Pathobiology and the Alabama State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include an earnedDVM ,VMD or equivalent from an accredited institution and documented experience of working with commercial poultry at the time the appointment begins. The successful candidate must possess excellent written and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all stakeholders in the Alabama poultry industry at the time of employment.
The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.
Desired Qualifications
Board certification by the American College of Poultry Veterinarians is desired.
Applicants who have a minimum of 10 years of veterinary experience in the poultry health industry will be highly considered.
