    What You'll Do as a Gamma Knife RN

     

    As a Gamma Knife RN, you will provide comprehensive care and support to patients before, during, and after their procedure, ensuring a safe, compassionate, and seamless experience.

     

    + Perform patient workups prior to Gamma Knife procedures, both in clinic and on the day of treatment

    + Prepare and educate patients on the day of the procedure, guiding them through each step of care

    + Administer sedation and closely monitor patients throughout the Gamma Knife procedure and associated MRI

    + Recover and discharge patients following completion of the procedure, ensuring safe transitions of care

    + Provide in-person patient workups in the Gamma Knife clinic as needed during scheduled work hours

    + Apply the nursing process within a Relationship-Based Care model, delivering holistic, patient-centered care

    + Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary care team to communicate patient status and support optimal outcomes

    + Maintain accurate, thorough documentation to promote continuity and safety of care

    Education & Experience

    + BSN preferred

    + 0-2 years of nursing experience required; experienced procedural nurses strongly preferred

    + Demonstrated knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan and ability to provide age-appropriate, patient-centered care

    Clinical & Professional Skills

    + Strong clinical judgment with well-developed critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills

    + Ability to assess, interpret, and apply patient data to identify age-specific needs and deliver care in accordance with departmental policies and procedures

    + Ability to establish and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with executives, managers, physicians, advanced practice providers, ancillary and support staff, patients, and families

    + Proven ability to work effectively in a complex, fast-paced environment, manage multiple and changing priorities, and operate specialized equipment

    + Demonstrated ability to apply and support others in the nursing process

    Physical & Functional Requirements

    + Mobility, visual acuity, and manual dexterity required

    + Physical stamina to support frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients

    Licensure, Certifications & Clearances

    + Current Registered Professional Nurse (RN) licensure in the state where the facility is located, or a multistate license through the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)

    + Graduate Nurses (GN): Must successfully complete the RN licensure examination within six (6) months of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first, in accordance with UPMC policy

    + Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) required per American Heart Association (AHA) standards within 30 days of hire

    + Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required

    + UPMC-approved national certification preferred

    + Temporary Practice Permit (TPP) accepted as applicable

    + Required background clearances, including Act 34

     

    _Employees working under an out-of-state NLC license who later establish residency in the state where the facility is located must apply for in-state licensure within 60 days of residency change._

     

    _Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the career ladder, based on their individual experience and education._
