    Bay Metals & Fabrication (BMF) is seeking an experienced 1st Class Sheet Metal Mechanic to support active shipyard projects. This role is suited for a highly skilled mechanic who can work independently, lead by example, and keep crews productive in the absence of direct supervision.

    Position Overview

    The 1st Class Sheet Metal Mechanic performs advanced sheet metal work in a shipyard environment and plays a key role in keeping projects moving forward. This position requires strong blueprint knowledge, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and leadership capability on the deck plates.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Perform complex sheet metal fabrication and installation work

    + Read, interpret, and execute work from blueprints and specifications

    + Maintain productivity and jobsite organization when supervisors are not present

    + Assist with starting and supporting hot work activities

    + Answer technical questions from customers, shipyard personnel, and SBS

    + Plan ahead for consumables and materials to avoid work stoppages

    + Support vent testing, balancing, and coordination with other trades

    + Help mentor and guide junior mechanics and handy persons

    + Support multiple job sites as needed

    Required Experience & Qualifications

    + Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the sheet metal trade

    + Strong working knowledge of shipboard sheet metal systems (vents, galleys, berthing, etc.)

    + Ability to read and fully understand blueprints independently

    + Capable of working with minimal supervision

    + Proven ability to keep crews productive and motivated

    + Must have all necessary tools required to perform sheet metal work

    Preferred Skills

    + Experience working in active shipyards or industrial environments

    + Basic vent testing and balancing knowledge

    + Familiarity coordinating work with other trades

    Compensation & Growth

    + $28.00 – $33.00/hour, based on experience

    + Consistent work on long-term shipyard and defense-related projects
