  • Advanced HEV Simulation and Performance Research…

    Ford Motor Company (Dearborn, MI)

    Apply Now

We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world -- together. At Ford, we’re all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves?

    In this position...

Engineering complex electrified propulsion systems in today’s competitive market requires sophisticated model-based development methodologies that can help deliver optimized products quickly and efficiently. There is a critical need to identify and explore opportunities for improving customer experience and value of our electrified vehicle products. We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative engineer to play a key role in the development, analysis, and optimization of vehicle attributes across a broad range of electrified propulsion architectures. Leveraging high-fidelity simulation models, you will perform detailed analysis across fuel economy, performance, thermal management, emissions, and passenger comfort, with a specific focus on evaluating and optimizing hybrid energy management strategies to achieve best-in-class fuel economy while meeting stringent emissions regulations. The role also focuses on simulating and analyzing real-world customer data to ensure our vehicles meet and exceed customer expectations.

    What you'll do...

Conduct detailed vehicle-level attribute analysis (fuel economy, performance, emissions, thermal management, passenger comfort) using high-fidelity simulation models across diverse xEV architectures to drive development and optimization of Ford’s current and future xEV offerings.

Utilize models employing 1D and 3D methods to ensure comprehensive engine-out and tailpipe emissions analysis and assessment of compliance.

Perform functional validation and correlation of high-fidelity vehicle and propulsion system models against physical test data, ensuring accuracy and reliability across steady-state and transient operating conditions.

Lead and execute large-scale attribute optimization studies leveraging HPC/cloud environments to balance system performance objectives over regulatory cycles and representative real-world customer driving profiles.

Develop intuitive dashboards and reports to effectively visualize and communicate complex simulation results and real-world data insights to engineering teams and stakeholders.

Collaborate extensively with propulsion systems controls and calibration engineering teams, as well as other cross-functional teams (thermal, climate, etc.) to influence design decisions by providing simulation-based analysis and insights.

    You'll have...

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Automotive Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.

3+ years of experience with analyzing various hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) architectures, including but not limited to full, plug-in, series, parallel, powersplit, and range extender systems.

3+ years of experience with analyzing electrified propulsion systems hardware and controls, including combustion engines, electric machines, batteries, thermal systems, driveline, and chassis systems.

3+ years of experience with operation, modeling and control of internal combustion engines and aftertreatment systems for ensuring regulatory compliance.

3+ years of experience with MATLAB / Simulink / Stateflow.

3+ years of experience with other relevant simulation tools (e.g., GT-SUITE, AVL CRUISE M, AMESim, etc.).

1+ years of experience with version control systems (e.g., GitHub, GitLab, SVN) and automation concepts.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills, including strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Demonstrated initiative, resilience, a strong work ethic, and a desire for continuous learning

    Even better, you may have...

Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.

Direct experience with model development of specific complex xEV architectures (e.g., powersplit, series, parallel, and advanced multi-mode hybrids)

Thorough understanding of current and upcoming EPA emissions regulations for light-duty / heavy-duty vehicles and technology pathways for meeting compliance requirements.

Working knowledge of thermal and hydraulic systems as applied to hybrid electric architectures as well as automotive climate systems and passenger comfort.

Experience with optimization techniques and tools applied to engineering problems.

Experience working with large datasets, particularly automotive telematics or connected vehicle data and with developing data visualization dashboards

Familiarity or experience with high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud environments for simulations/optimizations.

Experience contributing to technology roadmaps or advanced engineering projects

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!

As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home?
