This leader sets the vision for next-generation locomotives and upgrades, ensuring competitive advantage in freight rail markets. The role drives commercial constructs, proposals, pricing governance, and program execution across new builds, modernization, and lifecycle support.

Key Job Elements:
Product Strategy & Portfolio Leadership
• Define a 3–5 year product and technology roadmap for locomotives, and modernization, and balanced with regional development
• Align portfolio investments with customer demand, regulatory trends (emissions, safety), and competitive benchmarks
• Champion sustainability and alternative propulsion (battery-electric, hybrid, hydrogen) initiatives
P&L Ownership & Growth
• Deliver annual revenue and margin targets for locomotive products
• Expand market share through differentiated offerings and lifecycle value propositions
• Drive cost optimization and design-to-value initiatives with engineering and supply chain
Commercial Constructs, Proposals & Pricing
• Architect deal structures for locomotive sales, leasing, and service bundles
• Govern proposal strategy for Class I railroads, short lines, and international bids
• Set pricing corridors for locomotives, modernization kits, and aftermarket parts; ensure compliance with antitrust and competitive info policies
Program & Lifecycle Management
• Sponsor major locomotive programs
• Apply stage-gate rigor and PMO standards to deliver on-time, at-cost, at-quality outcomes
• Embed safety and cybersecurity requirements across locomotive control systems and interfaces
Customer & Market Engagement
• Build executive relationships with Class I railroads, regional operators, and OEM partners
• Monitor regulatory changes (EPA emissions, FRA safety) and adjust portfolio strategy proactively
Organization & Talent
• Lead a high-performing team of product managers, pricing analysts, and program leaders
• Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and cross-functional collaboration
Qualifications and Experience:
Required:
• 15+ years in Product Management or related leadership roles within Rail or Heavy Equipment
• Proven P&L ownership, portfolio strategy execution, and pricing governance
• Experience leading complex locomotive or heavy equipment programs
• Strong understanding of rail industry standards, emissions regulations, and digital technologies
Preferred:
• Familiarity with alternative propulsion technologies and digital rail solutions
• Exposure to cybersecurity-by-design for control systems
• Program management certifications (PMI PgMP, MSP)
Essential and Physical Activities Functions:
• Strength – Position involves work in a standard office environment. Constant sitting. Rare standing, walking. Rare lifting
• Motion – Position requires standard repetitive motions and hand/eye coordination associated with research and central office communications
• Vision/Hearing Requirements – Constant communications, including both talking and hearing
• Work Environment – Position will typically be located in an office environment
• Emotional Demands – Ability to work with a team to accomplish the mission
• Safety – Position is primarily limited to general office safety requirements
Travel: ~30–40% (North America and select global customers)
