Job Description

The Electronics Section Is the New York City Police Department's primary communications provider, dedicated to guaranteeing unfailing readiness and response capability by delivering the reliable, uninterrupted systems that are essential for officer safety and coordinated action. The Command oversees the proactive deployment of radio technology and on-site technical expertise. The Electronics Section directly manages real-time trouble shooting, critical radio tracking, and seamless inter-agency interoperability, while simultaneously providing emergency command post response. This comprehensive Infrastructure ensures Executive Leadership maintains absolute command and control under any circumstance.
This position will include a wide range of responsibilities and tasks such as overseeing programming, updates, encryption of radios and other tasks and equipment associated with the Radio Repair Operations Unit, including but not limited to:
- Technical day-to-day oversight and the assignment of Radio Repair mechanic tasks
- In conjunction with other Radio Repair staff, ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiencies related to the Radio Repair Operations functions and responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with industry wide standards and all FCC rules and regulations
- Leads innovation and advanced diagnostics, acts as SME on Radio matters and upgrades and testing
- Guides technical standards, engineering and project management
- Serve as a subject matter expert on radio frequency (RF) technologies, system interoperability, and emerging communication technologies relevant to public safety operations
- Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of Radio Repair Mechanics

Qualifications
Qualification Requirements
A first class Federal Communications Radio telephone license with radar endorsement and a valid New York State Driver's License. In addition all candidates must have:
1) Eight years recent experience in the two-way mobile radio industry as a repairman; or
2) not less than six years of such experience plus sufficient training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade or vocational high school, college, or training program to make up a total of eight years of creditable experience. Six months of creditable experience will be credited for each year of approved education or training.
