Job Title: Field Service EngineerJob Description

We are seeking an entry-level Field Service Engineer for a direct hire position with a leading automotive custom machine manufacturer. This role is ideal for candidates eager to transition into controls engineering roles after gaining foundational experience. The position involves hands-on learning, allowing engineers to grow quickly and become well-rounded in the field.

Responsibilities

+ Engage in initial training at the Grand Rapids site for 2-4 months, learning from the Field Service Manager and team.

+ Observe and shadow experienced engineers, gradually adopting their practices.

+ Travel extensively, up to 70-90%, across the United States to customer sites.

+ Assist customers in the startup, operation, and commissioning of equipment.

+ Work with electrical assembly of panels, high voltage power sources, PLC panels, transistors, motor drives, and large metal, hydraulic, and mechanically automated equipment.

+ Provide troubleshooting, installation, and servicing support at customer sites.

Essential Skills

+ Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)

+ Fundamental understanding of PLC/ladder logic

+ Mechanical and electrical aptitude

+ Eagerness and interest in developing new skills

+ Clean driving record

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ 1-2 years of experience in PLC programming is a plus

+ Experience through co-ops or internships is advantageous

Work Environment

The role includes both desk and hands-on work with machines at the home base. Critical time will be spent on the floor at customer sites engaging in troubleshooting, installation, and servicing tasks. The position offers the chance to learn PLC programming, design, and robotic fundamentals, providing a pathway to becoming a well-rounded controls engineer.

This is a Permanent position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $63000.00 - $75000.00/yr.
