Role Overview:
The purpose of this position is to perform technical engineering assignments in collecting and analyzing data as well as preparing reports for various traffic and safety studies. Takes customer requests and conducts traffic investigations looking holistically at the locations and providing recommendations based on engineering principles. Makes observations of existing field conditions throughout the District and provides recommendations of improvements on a regular basis. Investigations are completed using special tools and measuring devices. Makes factual determination of causes and contributing conditions for fatal crashes along with preventative recommendations.
+ Collect, correlate, and analyze field data for assigned projects.
+ Conduct various traffic studies; Miovision traffic counts; take roadway measurements and take photographs of locations being investigated.
+ Use Microsoft Office software, spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and graphics software to produce reports.
+ Recommends proper course of action to supervisor from collected information and reports.
+ Navigate and edit various GiS databases; Update sign inventory as needed; Maintain traffic control device inventory.
+ Prepare work orders.
+ Pull Crash Data; review, categorize and eliminate non-relevant records; summarize findings; identify trends; and recommend appropriate courses of action.
+ Work with public to answer questions and to clarify requests.
+ Required to be on call for snow and ice removal November - April 1st.
+ Work effectively both independently and as apart of a team.
CDL Positions:
Candidates with a current CDL and endorsements required by the district will earn an additional $1 per hour. Candidates without a CDL will be given 90 days to obtain their CDL and endorsements required by the district and will then earn an additional $1 per hour. CDL training provided onsite by certified INDOT staff.
Location:
This position is located in INDOT’s LaPorte District, Technical Services Division.
Pay Rate:
This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $24.26 but may be commensurate with education and work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
+ Calibrates, operates, and evaluates data from multiple specialize test systems at Materials and Tests; Obtain CDL license to assist in District snow removal operations;
+ Follows all related safety standards and conducts/participates in safety briefing.
+ Performs research, preliminary data analysis and collects quality data on multiple specialized testing systems.
+ Performs and maintains calibration of test systems to prescribed federal and state specifications.
+ Performs maintenance, repair and system upgrades to laboratory test systems.
+ Assists Laboratory Manager in conducting multiple laboratory tests and data analysis.
+ Assist with Facilities and B&G repair and maintenance.

What You'll Need for Success:
The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have either
+ High school graduate or equivalent.
+ Must possess a valid driver license.
+ Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or obtain one with the first 90 days of employment.
Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience.
+ Required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
+ Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
+ Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing and walking for long periods of time.
+ Must be able to endure exposure to inclement weather.
+ Must have ability to read, write, and communicate clearly.
+ Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
+ The ability to read, interpret and follow technical documents such as AASHTO, ASTM, INDOT specifications, and Indiana Test Methods (ITM);
+ Basic knowledge of and the ability to operate and maintain material testing equipment.
+ Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
