    Role Overview:

    As the Sentence Computation Specialist, you will work in the Sentence Computation and Release Section of the Classification Division of the Department of Correction and report to the Director of the Sentence Computation and Release through the Sentence Computation Supervisor. You will be responsible for the review, authorization, and application of all requests for time cuts from assigned facilities to ensure that all time cut actions are reviewed accurately and per statute requirements.

    Salary Statement:

    The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

     

    A Day in the Life:

    The essential functions of this role are as follows:

    + Responsible to monitor time cut queues and handwritten forms for pending time cut review requests.

    + Responsible to review each time cut request submitted from assigned facilities for approval or denial by researching all information which is available in the approved Department of Correction system and the scanning system, to ensure that each time cut decision complies with policy, procedure, and state law.

    + Responsible to review, complete and process all time cuts in the approved Department of Correction system when all issues are resolved.

    + Responsible to ensure that time cuts are processed according to EPRD for assigned facilities.

    + Responsible for sending completed time cut forms to the assigned facility, printing forms for scanning to the Department of Correction scanning system, saving scanned copies of the forms into the Sentence Computation and Release time cut folder, and keeping stats on all time cuts processed.

    + Responsible for revising time cut actions which are needed due to amended commitment in the approved Department of Correction system for assigned facilities in accordance with the established policy, procedure, and state law. If the release date is within thirty (30) working days or if the change results in release within thirty (30) days, this must be completed within one (1) working day of receipt of the change of commitment, otherwise this task is to be completed within one (1) week of receiving the documentation.

    + Responsible to complete or be the second signature on the Change of Commitment form that resulted from a change in EPRD due to missing or inaccurate calculations.

    + Responsible for revising time cut actions which are needed due to conduct appeals received by a facility, IDOC Legal and/or the Attorney General office in the approved Department of Correction system for assigned facilities in accordance with the established policy, procedure, and state law.

    + Responsible to review, revise sentence calculation and sign Department of Correction approved forms for any received DHB petitions relating to TEC review, ECT restoration and/or rescinding ECT.

    + Responsible to complete a Discrepancy form for any time calculations discrepancies discovered, sending completed time cut forms to the assigned facility, printing forms for scanning to the Department of Correction scanning system, saving scanned copies of the forms into the Sentence Computation and Release time cut folder, and keeping stats on all discrepancies processed.

    + Responsible to establish a good working relationship with court, county supervision and facility staff to ensure that all available documentation is verified and considered when entering or modifying time actions into the approved Department of Correction system.

    + Responsible to answer all inquiries for assigned facilities that are received from courts, Probation departments, Community Corrections, Department of Correction from other states, Federal Bureau of Prisons, and any other outside entity.

    + Responsible to act as a resource person for assigned facilities when questions arise regarding sentence calculations.

    + Responsible to respond to correspondence from court, offenders or other interested agencies or interested parties.

    + Responsible to complete other duties as assigned by the Sentence Computation Supervisor, Director of the Sentence Computation and Release or Executive Director of the Classification Division.

    What You'll Need for Success:

    You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).

     

    + Exceptionable knowledge of Disciplinary Hearing Board positions and duties relating to grievous conduct sanctions.

    + Exceptionable knowledge of the Case Plan Credit Time positions and duties.

    + Above average knowledge of source materials and references, including federal and state laws which impact correctional institutional programs.

    + Above average knowledge of Indiana Penal Code and Department of Correction policies and procedures applicable to Educational and Case Plan Credit Time.

    + Above average knowledge Department of Correction policies and procedures applicable to the Adult Disciplinary Policy.

    + Above average knowledge of Case Plan Analyst positions and duties.

    + Above average knowledge of department forms, procedures, and management.

    + Above average knowledge of approved department software.

    + Above average knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

    + Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

    + Ability to effectively speak when confronted by irate visitors and callers.

    + Ability to respond appropriately in emergency or crisis situations.

    + Ability to keep confidential information.

    + Ability to adhere to the Department’s dress code and grooming standards.

    + Ability to document and maintain records as it pertains to the American Correctional Association (ACA) standards.

    + Ability to complete on-the-job and Correctional Training Institute training.

    + Ability to abide by the Department’s Standard of Conduct and all behavior expectations.

    + Ability to work under emergency conditions.

    + Ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates, and other staff within the unit, institution, and agency, as well as individuals in other agencies.

    This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
