Postdoctoral Associate- Observational Cosmology
**Required Qualifications:** (as evidenced by an attached resume/CV)
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Astrophysics or a closely related field in hand by the start of the appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong background in one or more of the following areas: (1) image processing, (2) weak gravitational lensing, (3) coding and software development, (4) student mentorship, (5) statistical inference with astronomical data, including AI/ML tools, and/or (6) experience working in large collaborations.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will work under the supervision of Dr. Von Der Linden (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/physics/people/\_profiles/vonderlindena) (SBU) and Dr. Li (https://www.bnl.gov/staff/xli6) (BNL) and will lead efforts to combine space- and ground-based imaging for weak-lensing shear estimation, and to carry out cluster-lensing analyses using Vera C. Rubin Observatory LSST datasets and complementary public space-based datasets (e.g., HST, JWST and Euclid) to improve the Rubin LSST measurement. The incumbent will work within the Dark Energy Science Collaboration (DESC (https://rubinobservatory.org/for-scientists/science-collaborations/desc) ), helping to build and strengthen synergies across relevant working groups, and will perform original research in close collaboration with the PIs and cosmology teams at Stony Brook University and Brookhaven National Laboratory, as well as with DESC. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.
• Data reduction of public space-based images
• Shear estimation from calibrated image
• Cluster lensing measurement
• Student mentoring
• Report and update result in SBU and BNL group meeting
• Help organize BNL-SBU seminar and other duties as assigned.
