    This Corporate Communications role is responsible for both external and internal communications at Virginia Natural Gas. The successful candidate will develop and implement strategic, integrated communication plans for key business units and leadership, ensuring alignment with company goals and strategic pillars. The position provides team leadership, expert communications counsel and management, agency oversight and budget administration to ensure delivery of comprehensive communications for company initiatives.

     

    The position has accountability for and collaborates with internal leaders to ensure the alignment and interdependency of the company’s communications initiatives. Candidate will also execute a variety of complex communications programs and strategies related to regulatory filings, safety, energy efficiency, community outreach, etc. that enhance and protect VNG’s brand and reputation.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITES:

    This position requires strong leadership, communication, project management and strategic planning skills. Must be adept at building relationships, understanding business unit needs and working collaboratively with a wide range of functional teams and stakeholders.

     

    Broad expertise in brand management, media, copywriting, public relations, crisis communications, employee communications and customer communications is essential. Exceptional presentation, written and verbal communication skills are required.

    Key Responsibilities include:

    + Lead the development and execution of clear, timely communications across all communication channels, ensuring consistent and accurate information reaches key stakeholders, customers and employees.

    + Identify and create communications that engage internal and external stakeholders in the company’s mission, vision, business goals and growth plans.

    + Create and execute integrated communications plans that align with organizational goals.

    + Oversee partner agencies and manage media campaign processes and budgets. Provide reporting on campaign performance against key performance metrics.

    + Lead communications for and support regulatory initiatives.

    + Develop stakeholder materials such as factsheets, community reports and safety communications.

    + Manage outreach and education initiatives and budgets, including purchase orders and invoices.

    + Manage the editorial calendar for customer communications and digital content.

    + Develop employee communications across multiple platforms, partner with leadership on internal content and quarterly meetings.

    + Support enterprise initiatives like volunteer events, United Way, open enrollment and scholarships.

    + Lead communications for Field Service, Construction Operations and Call Centers ensuring accurate and timely updates for outstanding customer service.

    + Perform additional responsibilities as required to support organizational objectives.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    + Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in communications, public relations, marketing or related field and at least 7+ years of experience in communications and marketing.

    + Required: Supervisory experience in a corporate environment; strategic planning; working across functional teams; developing integrated communications plans.

    + Preferred: Energy industry experience.

    SPECIFIC SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

    + Proven understanding of communications fundamentals (mass media; social media; copywriting, brand management, employee communications, public relations, media relations, crisis communications, customer communications, etc.)

    + Ability to translate complex concepts into easy-to-understand and relatable ones for target audiences.

    + Exceptionally strong presentation, verbal and written communication skills.

    + Solid understanding of communication metrics and use of complementary AI tools.

    + Experience developing, writing and implementing integrated communications plans including internal and external components.

    + Self-starter with excellent follow-through and attention to detail.

    + Proven relationship-building skills at all levels within an organization.

    + Excellent project and program management skills (including budgets).

    + Ability to have an enterprise perspective supported by client-focused attitude.

    + Ability to hold self and team members accountable for results.

    + Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.

    + Proficient in AP Style, Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.

    Preferred:

    + Marketing/Media buying experience.

    + Copy writing, speech writing skills.

    WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    + Due to nature of role, employee may occasionally work beyond traditional business hours to meet deadlines or attend events as a company representative.

    + Works in a hybrid office environment – at least four days a week in our Virginia Beach office required.

    + Occasional Travel (5-20% travel): The incumbent will be required to travel on occasion. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
