    Job Description

    UW Facilities manages the University’s buildings, infrastructure and land, with more than 1,100 employees in a variety of fields. The Asset Management group includes Capital & Space Management, Real Estate, Sustainability and other teams responsible for planning and workload management. The Operations group includes Project Delivery, Maintenance & Construction, Campus Energy, Utilities & Operations, Building Services, Transportation Services and Safety. Supporting these groups are the Business Intelligence & Information Technology group and the Finance & Administration group.

     

    We have an outstanding opportunity for a **Building Automation Ontologist** to work across a diverse spectrum of UW Facilities business, operational units, and campus-wide partners to recommend and implement solutions for UW Facilities’ energy management platform based on statistical and data analysis. A platform which directly affects the quality and efficiency of utility services, the sustainability of the Seattle Campus and UW Facilities ability to comply with local, state, and federal regulations. To achieve those outcomes there is a need for a dedicated data analyst to support this growing platform and documents functional requirements, user interaction requirements, non-functional requirements, system capabilities and specifications that will better inform operational performance metrics. The Building Automation Ontologist will provide invaluable support and guidance to the operations and maintenance units in UW Facilities that rely on this information.

     

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    Application Administration 20%

    + Design, develop, configure, recommend, and implement features, customizations, and product functionality improvements for systems supported by this position.

    + Prepare and maintain baseline information on key energy parameters (i.e. Compressed Air, Lighting, Building Envelope, HVAC, etc.) relative to applicable significant energy consuming activities within the university.

    + Perform requirements gathering with customers and stakeholders to support the collection, organization, analysis, and distribution of campus wide energy data.

    + Implement processes and procedures for the successful integration of new large data sets.

    + Develop and maintain a current energy data schema & maintain a Cx analysys/ monitoring system to assist with forecasting the utility budget for the university.

    + Develop written procedures and program implementation documentation for users and online support resources.

    + Provide user training and support for campus-wide solutions and serve as an advocate and subject matter expert for supported applications.

    + Support regular application and license upgrades of vendor provided solutions.

    Business Support and Related Duties 30%

    + Regularly meet with energy partners throughout the University to refine system roadmaps and develop resolutions to latent issues affecting energy data management.

    + Develop and maintain important working relationships with current or potential UWF business partners, clients, and users on campus.

    + Support the creation and maintenance of the system and component design standards published by UW Facilities.

    + Engage with other University Partners (UW-IT, HFS, etc.) to strategize around service alignment.

    + Maintain familiarity with key enterprise application needs and review implementations from peer public institutions or related private sector partners. Using this information recommend improvements to the quality of supported systems.

    Data Analysis/Process Improvement 35%

    + Demonstrates a holistic understanding of business needs and the ability to conduct CEUO assessments and reporting.

    + Analyze a wide range of data integrations between internal and external applications.

    + Implement new features in existing technologies.

    + Ensure data set integrity/resilience to create quality data.

    + Analyze current processes and identify opportunities to improve.

    + Communicate process improvement opportunities to CEUO leadership.

    Other Responsibilities 15%

    + Design and develop reports using SSRS (MS SQL Server Reporting Services), Tableau, or other external report creation tools

    Education & Experience

    Required

    + Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, Engineering, physical sciences in engineering, information sciences, facility engineering.

    + 3 years of experience administering an enterprise data management platform, preferably in the energy or utility sector.

    + Proficiency in SQL with experience creating complex queries, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and report writing/creation/modification.

    + Experience designing and structuring relational databases and organizing asset frameworks.

    + Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.

    + Demonstrated strong written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, and status reporting.

    + Experience with PI or other data management system built specifically to collect, store, and manage sensor and time series operational data.

    + Positive interpersonal skills that include collaboration, taking different perspectives, and listening.

    + Related technical customer service experience.

    + Experience working with clients to understand and translate their requirements.

     

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    Desired

    + Experience with higher education processes, applications, and systems; familiarity with a complex large research university.

    + General knowledge of building automation systems and their purpose in a facility setting.

    + Technical support of building controls system integration and commissioning activities for building automated control systems (ideally those provided by Johnson Controls, Siemens and/or Alerton) or other operational technologies (e.g., BMS, BAS, DDC, lighting controls, access controls etc.).

    + Familiarity with Allen-Bradley PLC5 computer systems as well as with a wide variety of communication protocols such as Modbus and BACnet.

    + Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and customers including communicating technical issues for non-technical audiences.

    + Report writing skill set using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) or Tableau.

    + Experience with cloud-based enterprise applications and infrastructure.

    + Experience working in a diverse culture supporting higher education.

    + Experience with multitasking, dealing with ambiguity, and time management.

    Conditions of employment

    + Must be able to work outside normal and regular business/office hours and working days to fulfill responsibilities of this position.

    + Requires the ability to work in both office and field environments, using personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety equipment as required.

    + Must be able to work in mechanical/electrical spaces, including utility tunnels, outdoors, and confined spaces and around operating equipment such as boilers, pumps and transformers.

    + Must be able to work in a non-smoking environment.

    + Regular and predictable attendance.

     

    Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

    Pay Range Minimum:

    $86,376.00 annual

    Pay Range Maximum:

    $119,328.00 annual
