This range represents the hiring range. Salaries are determined individually depending on skills and experience. You will also be eligible to an annual bonus, employee share investment program (ESIP), Pension, Benefits, Railroad Retirement Benefits (RRB) and other perks.

Job Summary
The Director, Locomotive Engineer Compliance Training and Audit is responsible for overseeing the Locomotive Engineer Compliance and Training (LECT) teams across the United States (U.S.) and Canada. The incumbent ensures all expectations are met with the Student Locomotive Engineer (SLE) training programs, as well as Locomotive Engineers to keep CN current on all rules, certifications and regulatory obligations. The incumbent is a leader dedicated to driving a sustained focus on transforming and enhancing the safety culture, by continuously evaluating and improving safety protocols. Furthermore, the incumbent drives opportunities for efficiency in operating metrics and fuel conservation.
Main Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
• Lead and oversee the LECT teams
• Lead efficiencies in operating metrics and fuel conservation
• Develop and implement a sustained focus on transforming and enhancing the safety culture
Cross Functional Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
• Foster collaboration with operational departments to ensure each region adopts the best safety practices and operates collaboratively towards the same safety goals
• Act as a liaison between the LECT group and operational departments
• Approve assessments and strategies for problematic locations
Audit and Compliance
• Create processes for weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly expectations of Locomotive Engineers across the enterprise
• Develop and implement strategies to enhance operational efficiency and safety
• Review Locomotive Engineer Training processes and standards across the enterprise to ensure best practices are implemented
• Review and revise train handling rules in the U.S. and Canada to ensure alignment
• Approve on-boarding and training of new LECT
Safety and Trends
• Review and analyze trends that impact safety, through face to face and remote observations, along with electronic methods that include locomotive downloads and use of emerging technology
• Work alongside internal and external stakeholder to review data that will determine problematic locations and train handling concern
• Utilize data and work with internal and external stakeholders to find a measurable solution data
Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role may be required to work long hours. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress. The role requires travel (up to 50%) within the U.S. and Canada.
Requirements
Experience
Railroad Operations
• Minimum 10 years of railroad operations experience
• Minimum 3 years of experience working as a qualified Locomotive Engineer
Education/Certification/Designation
• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)
• Valid Driver’s License
• Trained in Behavior Based Safety fundamentals
• Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation Management, Operations Management or a related discipline*
