    Supervisor, QC Microbiology Laboratories

     

    The Supervisor, QC Microbiology Laboratories is responsible for microbiology quality control activities supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing, including new product introductions, raw material analysis, utilities sampling and testing, and microbiology laboratory support for quality investigations.

     

    Schedule: Monday-Friday first shift

     

    Salary: $75,000-$100,000/year

    Job Responsibilities

    + Ensure systems and processes owned by the team are in a state of control and are effectively managed and maintained.

    + Assign responsibilities to manage workload effectively and optimize use of resources.

    + Define and manage roles and responsibilities to ensure clear accountability and high performance that meets or exceeds customer needs.

    + Allocate staffing and manage resource utilization to meet departmental objectives within budget guidelines.

    + Maintain a safe work environment by ensuring adherence to EHS policies and procedures.

    + Develop and maintain a high-performing team of Senior Microbiologists, Microbiology Analysts, and Microbiology Technicians.

    + Coordinate workflow within the QC microbiology team, including prioritization and testing schedules.

    + Apply Lean concepts to drive continuous improvement.

    + Train personnel on laboratory procedures and processes.

    + Review, verify, and approve QC data while monitoring trends and abnormalities; author technical trend reports as needed.

    + Serve as QC lead for investigations related to microbiology processes or data, including sampling, deviations, and investigational testing.

    + Support the transfer, development, validation, and qualification of new methods and processes.

    + Identify and implement learning and development programs for team members.

    + Ensure team skills, knowledge, and experience are balanced and sufficient to meet operational needs.

    + Provide constructive feedback to team members and cross-functional partners to improve performance.

    + Respond to compliance and process inquiries, including those from regulatory agencies.

    + Communicate policies, procedures, priorities, and progress to employees on an ongoing basis.

    + Lead process improvement initiatives aligned with strategic goals, including Lean and high-performance laboratory initiatives.

    + Ensure employees have appropriate tools and resources to perform work safely and effectively.

    + Monitor training completion and compliance.

    + Facilitate and lead initiatives involving new technologies, policies, or procedures to enhance QC operations.

    + Perform high-complexity microbiological testing as required.

    + Act as the primary liaison between production and quality control teams.

    + Provide off-shift or on-call support as required to support 24/7 operations.

    + Perform other duties supporting laboratory or operational processes as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Experience in a production or quality control laboratory environment.

    + Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

    + Solid understanding of laboratory operations, including utilities, in-process testing, finished product testing, and associated equipment.

    + Ability to analyze and solve complex problems in a cross-functional environment.

    + Demonstrated ability to manage, develop, and motivate employees in a dynamic and changing environment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline (Microbiology or related field).

    + QC microbiology laboratory experience.

    + Prior experience leading or supervising a team.

    + Experience working in a Lean manufacturing or laboratory environment, including principles such as 5S, value stream mapping, waste elimination, and Gemba walks.

    + Working knowledge of laboratory and quality systems such as LIMS/LabWare, MODA, Veeva, SAP-PM, Maximo, and Microsoft applications.

    + Experience in sterile pharmaceutical microbiology testing, including validation, technology transfer, and change control.

    + Demonstrated success in project management.
