Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

As a Senior Software Engineer on our Global Manufacturing Engineering team, you will be a versatile and key contributor to our core "geometrical compiler"—a complex, compute-heavy pipeline that is the brain of our production system. You will be responsible for designing, building, and operating the critical backend services that process massive 3D data, manage complex workflows, and generate the complex, high-fidelity instruction sets for our automated robotics and hardware systems.

This role is the digital architect of the physical product. You will create the "master document" that our advanced hardware and controls teams use to "print" the final product. This requires a mature engineering background, a high degree of versatility, and close partnership with R&D, Operations, Manufacturing Process Engineers, and our Hardware/Controls engineering teams to solve deep technical challenges in distributed systems, large-file data processing, and complex algorithmic integration. This position is full-time and on-site four days/week at our Pomona facility and 1 day work from home.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

+ **System Design & Development** : Design, build, and maintain scalable, high-availability, and compute-heavy backend services and APIs for our manufacturing pipeline.

+ **Data & Event Pipeline Engineering** : Develop and own robust, event-driven pipelines. Solve complex problems related to connecting disparate data streams, managing large-scale 3D file I/O, and generating the final, high-precision data packages that drive our automated manufacturing hardware.

+ **Infrastructure & Deployment** : Own the full lifecycle of your services, including deployment and operation. Improve our engineering infrastructure by containerizing components and managing their deployment in a cloud-native environment.

+ **Cross-Functional Integration** : Collaborate closely with domain experts in R&D (computational geometry), Operations, Manufacturing Process, and Hardware/Controls Engineers to integrate, deploy, and support new pipeline components and services.

+ **Operational Excellence & Versatility** : Demonstrate end-to-end ownership. Instrument services with comprehensive logging and metrics, debug complex system-wide issues, and show the versatility to tackle diverse challenges across the entire software stack.

+ **Code & Design Reviews** : Uphold high engineering standards by participating in detailed code and design reviews and contributing to our long-term technical architecture.

+ Perform additional duties or tasks assigned by Manager.

Job Requirements:

+ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

+ 5+ years of professional software development experience, with a focus on backend systems, distributed computing, or data-intensive pipelines.

+ Strong programming proficiency in one or more of our core languages: C++, Go, or Python, with a proven ability to learn and adapt.

+ Proven experience in designing, building, and operating distributed systems.

+ A solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and networking.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

+ Experienced with large-scale, multi-language build systems and are comfortable managing complex dependency graphs for C++, Go, and Python projects.

+ Hands-on experience containerizing applications and deploying them to cloud-native orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes).

+ You are comfortable with numerical, scientific, or geometric computing and have used related libraries for complex data analysis, transformation, or validation.

+ You have experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment, building software that interfaces directly with hardware, robotics, or embedded controls systems.

+ Possess a deep understanding of system observability. You instinctively build services that are configurable, export detailed structured logs, and provide fine-grained performance metrics.

+ Expert at debugging complex, multi-threaded, and distributed systems, especially those involving large data transfers and asynchronous processing.

+ Must possess excellent Communication (Technical, Oral, Written) and the ability to describe complex technical issues clearly.

+ Able to follow instructions and guidelines set forth by the Manager.

+ Sound understanding of regulatory and compliance documentation processes, review cycles and information repositories (meeting minutes, templates, charter documentation etc).

+ Ability to discern trends and analyze operational and financial reports.

+ Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

+ Must possess excellent technical judgment and able to set logical action plan and technical problem resolution.

+ Competent with use of personal computers and strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Microsoft Project is required. Able to type at least 50 WPM.

+ Ability to research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical equipment, systems, and processes to meet requirements based on fundamental engineering principles.

+ Under general supervision, plan, conduct, lead, and report on significant projects. Review progress, evaluate results, and inform company management on assigned project direction and status.

+ A team player that can work well under constrained deadlines and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel.

+ Follows directions well and is a self-starter in identifying what is critical to the success of the project.

+ Ability to travel at least 10% of the time to various manufacturing sites, both domestically and internationally, to oversee process implementation and provide on-site support.

At Envista, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The total compensation package for this position may also include an annual performance bonus, medical/dental/vision benefits, 401K match, and/or other applicable compensation plans.
