    Duties Description The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill one permanent Dietitian 2, Grade 18, position at the Cook Chill Production Center (CCPC) located in Orangeburg, New York. CCPC produces wholesome food that meets the nutritional and budgetary needs of its customers, which include OMH facilities, other state and government facilities, and non-profit agencies. Cook Chill is a facility which prepares large quantities of food with an extended shelf life.This position requires the incumbent to work in a refrigerated and sometimes wet work environment and involves extensive walking and some lifting. Some knowledge of product development, food science, and laboratory procedures are preferred.Duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to, the following:• Administer preoperational and operational sanitation inspections to ensure compliance with State and Federal standards.• Supervise food production staff in a large-scale production kitchen. Perform a full range of supervisory duties including time and attendance, performance evaluations, personnel record preparation, and overtime issues.• Request supplies, materials and equipment related to food production activities.• Conduct inspections of food preparation area to ensure compliance with State and Federal standards and to identify safety hazards.• Develop new recipes and new products.• Participate in the process of hiring new staff.• Plan and conduct in-service training activities.• Oversee the standardization of recipes.• Assist in the development of a quality assurance program for the Cook Chill Program.

     

    Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive Minimum Qualifications Under the NY HELPS Program: Current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or New York State Education Department (NYSED) certification in dietetics-nutrition and have completed a minimum of an additional 400 hours of supervised dietetics practice under the supervision of a RD.Transfer: Candidates must have permanent status as a Dietitian 2, G-18, and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 or Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law by having at least one year of permanent service in a qualifying title within two salary grades or one M-grade of this position.55 b/c Opportunity:Individuals certified eligible for the 55b/c program under the Governor’s Program to Hire Persons/Veterans with Disabilities pursuant to Section 55b/c of the Civil Service Law AND possess a Bachelor’s degree will also be considered. At a future date, it is expected that employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
