    + Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

    + Knowledge of best practices in student basic needs support, retention strategies, and non-clinical case management.

    + Ability to identify and support students at risk or in crisis due to basic needs and/or special-population factors.

    + Experience working with students, faculty, and staff.

    + Ability to build community resources and partnerships.

    + Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Master’s degree in related field including Adult Education, Educational Leadership, Student Affairs, etc. from an accredited institution.

    + Three or more years of direct supervision of professional staff.

    + Understanding of campus and community resource networks.

    + General knowledge of enrollment processes, advising structures, and barriers to student persistence.

    + Two or more years of direct experience working with students, faculty, and staff.

    + Demonstrated experience working on large scale programs or projects.

    + Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory, assessment, and practices to foster student success.

    + Technical experience in case management systems (e.g. Maxient, Advocate, EAB Navigate), assessment tools (e.g. Qualtrics, PowerBI) and MS Office suite.

    Job Description

    Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students Office at Texas State University, the Assistant Director position is a full-time staff member that supports the development and execution of a comprehensive, campus-wide student basic needs initiative designed to ensure students have equitable access to essential resources that enhance well-being, stability, and academic success. The position plays a pivotal part in serving special populations, affiliated student organizations, and targeted student cohorts by providing tailored guidance, advocacy, and engagement support across academic and co-curricular experiences. Additionally, this role assists students navigating unexpected financial or personal challenges, including emergency funding needs, ensuring timely connection to services and removal of barriers that could disrupt academic progress.

    Job Duties

    + Coordinate and enhance programs addressing food security, housing stability, health access, and financial wellness; develop strategic plans and foster partnerships with campus and community agencies.

    + Direct services for veteran, pregnant/parenting, non-traditional, and former foster care students; advise affiliated organizations; build resource networks; and advocate for student needs in departmental planning.

    + Offer timely interventions for students of concern, including urgent basic needs assistance; coordinate referrals and ensure follow-up for academic and personal challenges.

    + Develop and maintain assessment cycles for basic needs and special population programs; analyze data to improve services; prepare reports and communicate findings to leadership.

    + Provide direct supervision to Coordinators; plan, assign, and monitor work; conduct performance evaluations; and recommend promotions or disciplinary actions.

    + Coordinate outreach initiatives and marketing strategies to increase awareness and engagement with resources, programs, and events.

    + Represent the Dean of Students Office at meetings, committees, and events within the Division of Student Success ( DSS ) and the University.

    + Function as a member of the CARE Team and Dean of Students Office professional staff team.

    + Monitor campus activities and athletic events for compliance with policy and safety standards; intervene when necessary and participate in coordinated responses during critical incidents.

    + Present at local, regional, and national meetings and conferences as requested.

    + Other duties as assigned.
