    Job Description Summary

    The Department of Pathobiology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor in Immunology This is a twelve-month, tenure track position. Applications received by February 1, 2026, will receive optimal consideration; however, the position will remain open until filled.

     

    The successful candidate will be expected to develop a competitive, extramurally funded research program in immunology that advances the missions of the Department of Pathobiology, the College of Veterinary Medicine, and Auburn University. The active research strengths within the department include inflammation, host microbe and microbiome interactions, global health, vaccine science, autoimmunity, neuroinflammation, cancer immunology, innate immunity, immunopathology, and viral immunity. The selected candidate will teach a graduate-level Advanced Immunology course and contribute lectures in basic immunology within the veterinary curriculum. They will also mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and trainees across related disciplines, and collaborate with faculty in the College of Veterinary Medicine.

     

    The Department of Pathobiology supports a broad and active research environment that includes programs in cancer biology, genetics, avian diseases, and infectious diseases. Faculty have access to extensive collaboration opportunities across Auburn University, including the College of Agriculture, Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, College of Science and Mathematics, and Harrison College of Pharmacy. Departmental diagnostic services include bacteriology, mycology, virology, anatomic and clinical pathology, parasitology, and molecular diagnostics. The department also houses the University’s flow cytometry core with high-speed sorting capabilities. Additional College core facilities provide advanced microscopy and imaging, laser microdissection, multispectral imaging, and in vivo imaging. Collaborative access to the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology offers state-of-the-art sequencing and functional genomics resources. Auburn University is also a network member of theNCATS -funded Center for Clinical and Translational Science based at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Minimum qualifications include a PhD in Immunology or a closely related discipline at the start of the appointment. They should demonstrate a strong record of research excellence, supported by peer-reviewed publications in basic, translational, applied, or other areas of immunology. Candidates must show clear evidence of an established independent research program or the potential to develop one, reflected through their training, accomplishments, and grant-writing experience. Strong written and interpersonal communication skills are required.

     

    The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.

    Desired Qualifications

    Desirable qualifications include completion of postdoctoral training; aDVM ,VMD , MD, DO, or equivalent clinical degree; a strong record of research funding; a demonstrated commitment to collaborative research; a history of high-impact publications; and experience in graduate-level teaching and mentoring. Appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor will be based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
