    Function of Position:

    The position reports directly to the Senior Technical Assistant of the Hospitality Department and indirectly to the Department Chair of Hospitality. Under the direction of the Senior Technical Assistant and/or Department Chair, is primarily responsible for classroom and laboratory support.

    Primary Functions:

    + Assists faculty and students in the laboratory with daily classroom lab support and classroom instruction

    + Cleans, organizes, prepares and equips the food laboratories for classroom instruction on a daily basis, which may include lifting, moving and set-up of food, supplies and equipment

    + Food/supply inventory, ordering and procurement

    + Prepare invoices for payment, and submit to Senior Technical Assistant for processing

    + Receive delivery of products, and maintain records of delivery. Maintain generally accepted HACCAP and sanitation procedures

    + Recruit, hire, train and supervise, and maintain work records for student aids and student assistants. Including submission of time sheets

    + Food costing/Recipe Scaling

    Secondary Functions:

    + Provides assistance for specialty events within the department, including but not limited to: guest lecturers, culinary demonstrations, high school tours, special projects and class events

    + Performs additional duties as assigned by the Senior Technical Assistant and/or Department Chair

    Job Requirements:

    Required Qualifications:

    + Earned associate's degree in hospitality or culinary arts from a regionally accredited higher education institution

    + 3 years of practical work experience

    + Practical employment experience

    + Effective communication skills, both orally and written

    + Proven ability to work as an enthusiastic team member

    + Ability and willingness to represent the college and the department in the most positive manner with prospective, former, and current students, clients, suppliers, and the community we serve.

    + Commitment to continued professional growth and development.

    + Servsafe certified

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Earned bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution

    + Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently

     

    The physical demands and working conditions listed below represent those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.     Physical Demands of Position: Frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility, including the use of step stools in order to retrieve archived materials. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, such as papers, files, boxes, equipment, computers, etc. and rarely requires moving material weighing over 50 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as a computer keyboard, monitor, projector, calculator, printer, and standard office equipment.

    Additional Information:

    Pay-rate: $17-$20.50/hour depending on experience

     

    Working Hours: 10-12 hours per week, Thursdays 9:00am - 4:00 pm, Fridays: 10:00am - 3:00pm

     

    Working Conditions: Varies (kitchen laboratory, office setting, classroom)

     

    Prohibition of Remote Work Outside New York State: Remote work locations outside New York State are not authorized by the College due to out-of-state tax and regulatory implications. In limited circumstances, prompted by business or operational needs, the College may approve requests to work remotely outside of New York State, on a short term, temporary basis.
