Responsibilities:
The Director of Pharmacy, Acute Care Clinical Services provides clinical leadership for the Department of Pharmacy at Highland Hospitals and Strong, with a focus on developing, implementing, and integrating system level acute care clinical pharmacy services. This individual will uphold standards set by the department, the institution, and regulatory agencies while establishing and leading high-quality clinical services that support optimal patient outcomes. Responsibilities include active participation in system level formulary management and therapeutic program proposals to promote the cost-effective and appropriate use of medications; providing drug information services and education for pharmacy and patient care staff; and guiding clinical pharmacy services throughout the hospital system, including participation on multidisciplinary committees.
The Director will also contribute to the development of system-wide clinical pathways, protocols, education, and quality assurance initiatives. They will maintain competencies in both clinical practice and leadership to effectively coach, mentor, train, and support staff as outlined in the essential duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Strategic Planning, Program Implementation, and Interdisciplinary Collaboration
+ Establish partnerships and collaborations with faculty, clinical and administrative leaders throughout the organization to establish programs and processes aimed at delivering cost-effective and safe drug therapy.
+ In collaboration with system leadership, plan, develop, and implement clinical pharmacy services focused on strategic initiatives and system care delivery models. These plans will include strategies for implementation and maintenance of the service, metrics to measure the clinical and economic impact of the program, and a reporting structure focused on process and outcomes.
+ In collaboration with System and site leadership, develop an effective plan to integrate operational and clinical activities of the pharmacy staff to establish efficient and effective strategies to achieve departmental and system objectives.
+ Actively Develop and participate in plans to mitigate drug shortage clinical impacts through collaboration with system pharmacy leaders and local service lines.
Management and Development of the Pharmacy Workforce
+ Models and fosters an environment of professionalism, continuous learning, and clinical excellence that is consistent with departmental and organizational values.
+ Directly supervise and evaluate performance of direct reports including routine meetings, feedback, and mentoring opportunities. Maintain scheduled meetings to discuss progress and identify strategic plan goals, holding direct reports accountable.
+ Mentor, educate and train pharmacy staff, residents, physicians, nursing staff and other health professionals related to the safe and effective use of drug therapy.
Process Improvement, Reporting, and Regulatory Adherence
+ In collaboration with system and site leadership, develop and implement measures that quantify workload and outcomes of clinical pharmacy practice.
+ In collaboration with system and site leadership, align policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure standards of care as well as compliance with State and Federal Regulations, accreditation standards and regulatory agencies.
Committee Participation and System Collaboration
+ Serve on the UR Medicine System Therapeutics Committee and appropriate sub-Committees in order to contribute to the development of therapeutic and formulary strategies to achieve cost-effective and safe drug therapy at HH and within the URMC system.
+ Actively participate on multi-disciplinary hospital and system committees and teams to contribute to the establishment of protocols, guidelines, educational programming, QA evaluations, and other activities that contribute to a safe and effective drug use process.
+ Provide subjective and objective evaluation of clinical performance and progress for all pharmacist staff members.
+ Other Duties as Assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
+ Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy required
+ Master’s degree preferred
+ 5 years of experience in hospital pharmacy or equivalent combination of education and experience required
+ Post Graduate residency or fellowship training preferred
+ 3 years of experience in pharmacy management required
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
+ Licensed Pharmacist in New York State upon hire required
