    Texas A&M University is hiring a new Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Librarian to lead the integration of cutting-edge AI and ML technologies into library workflows.

     

    In this innovative role, you’ll focus on enhancing digital collections, enriching metadata, and developing automated captioning pipelines to improve efficiency and scalability across the Libraries . This role involves hands-on development and evaluation of AI-enabled workflows, with an emphasis on sustainable, production-ready solutions. Reporting to the Director of Digital Collections, you’ll design and sustain AI-driven solutions while collaborating with Texas A&M High Performance Research Computing to leverage advanced infrastructure for emerging initiatives. Working closely with colleagues across the Libraries and campus, you’ll evaluate new technologies , champion responsible and sustainable applications, and align innovation with our mission to enable access, discovery, and long-term stewardship of scholarly resources.

     

    Salary: $72,335.00 annually and a $3,000.00 stipend for professional development

    Opportunities to Contribute:

    + Lead, prototype, and sustain AI/ML workflows for metadata, captioning, and large-scale text and media processing.

    + Use advanced AI techniques to enhance search and access to collections.

    + Collaborate with High Performance Computing for scalable, efficient AI solutions.

    + Evaluate, document, and guide responsible AI practices, including transparency, bias mitigation, and sustainability.

    + Collaborate with campus and external partners to identify AI opportunities.

    + Explore emerging AI tools and techniques in areas like NLP and computer vision.

    + Prototype and test new solutions to assess impact and feasibility.

    + Help shape policies and strategies for responsible AI use in libraries.

    + Create clear documentation for AI tools and workflows.

    + Train and support staff and students on AI systems.

    + Develop materials and reports to share project results and impact .

    + Engage in professional development through research and presentations.

    + Represent the Libraries in AI and digital library initiatives at all levels.

    + Stay current on AI, ML, and digital library trends to guide local practices.

    Qualifications:

    + Master’s degree in Library Science or a related field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or Digital Humanities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + Five years of related experience .

    + Knowledge of academic library functions .

    A well-qualified candidate may also possess :

    + E xperience working with digital libraries, repositories, data pipelines, artificial intelligence, machine learning tools, or related technologies.

    + Experience working with digital collections, research data, or cultural heritage materials in libraries, archives, museums, or academic settings .

    + F amiliarity with artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts such as large language models, natural language processing, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).

    + E xperience with AI/ML frameworks and tools .

    + P roficiency in at least one programming or scripting language .

    + K nowledge of metadata standards and digital library platforms .

    + Strong ability to learn and apply emerging technologies, collaborate effectively across teams, and communicate technical concepts clearly to audiences is essential, along with a commitment to ethical and sustainable AI solutions for cultural heritage and academic contexts.

    + Ability to work in an environment with shifting priorities.

    + Ability to take initiative and exercise independen t judg ment.

    + Conflict resolution skills.

    + Strong written, oral, and public communication skills, including representing the Libraries in professional settings.
