    The State of Connecticut, Department of Correction (DOC (http://www.ct.gov/doc) ) is recruiting for a Dental Assistant (40 Hour) (https://www.jobapscloud.com/CT/specs/classspecdisplay.asp?ClassNumber=2341FK&R1=undefined&R3=undefined) at the Willard Cybulski Correctional Institution in Somers, CT. In this role, you will have an opportunity in dental assisting procedures including, but not limited to restorative, prosthodontic, periodontic, endodontic and oral surgery.

    POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

    + SHIFT: This is a full-time, 40 hours a week position on first shift.

    + SCHEDULE: 7:00 am - 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday,

    + LOCATION: Willard Cybulski Correctional Institution (https://portal.ct.gov/doc/facility/willard-ci) (Somers, CT)

    + NOTE: This is a hazardous duty (https://www.osc.ct.gov/empret/hazduty/workshop/hazdprint.htm) position. Selected candidates will be required to attend a 3-week hazardous duty (paid) training at the Maloney Center for Training & Staff Development located in Cheshire, CT.

    As a Dental Assistant with us, you will have the opportunity to:

    PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

    In a state dental clinic this class is accountable for performing instrument exchange in all areas of dentistry and assisting dentists in other clinic functions.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    + Performs instrument exchange procedures for operative dentistry (including general dentistry, pedodontics, prosthetics, orthodontics, periodontics and oral surgery);

    + Prepares dental restorative and prosthetic materials;

    + Assists in oral surgery as required;

    + Ensures compliance with OSHA regulations on infection control;

    + Prepares, develops and mounts radiographs;

    + Records medical histories;

    + Prepares and performs daily maintenance of major equipment;

    + Maintains equipment and supply inventories;

    + Schedules appointments;

    + Prepares a variety of requests for individual diagnostic testing;

    + Processes billing and/or insurance information;

    + Illustrates proper preventive dental hygiene to individuals;

    + Assures completeness and accuracy of dental medical records;

    + Prepares reports and correspondence;

    + May send out reminder cards;

    + May participate in dental health information program;

    + May assist in taking radiographs;

    + May pour molds when necessary;

    + May act as triage and/or receptionist for incoming individual telephone calls;

    + Performs related duties as required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

    + Knowledge of dental assisting operative procedures;

    + Skills

    + interpersonal skills;

    + Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

    One (1) year of experience in dental assistant work.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

    Completion of a Dental Assisting Program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association may be substituted for the General Experience.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    + Experience in performing 4 handed dentistry

    + Experience working with Correctional or Forensic Populations.

    + Experience in the instrument counts during sterilization process and cleaning/maintaining the autoclave utilized for sterilization.

    + Experience maintaining dental vacuum filters, dental lines, & Dental Operatory Filter

    + Experience in diagnostic x-rays

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    + Candidates must have successfully completed the Infection Control Examination (ICE) administered by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB).

    + Candidates must have successfully completed the Dental Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) examination administered by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB).

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Incumbents in this class may be exposed to moderately disagreeable conditions, communicable and/or infectious diseases and some risk of injury from assaultive and/or abusive individuals.
