    Job Description: Cost Accountant

     

    The Cost Accountant is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting cost information to help drive operational efficiency, support financial decision-making, and ensure accurate financial records. This individual works closely with operations, manufacturing, and finance teams to develop cost standards, perform variance analysis, track inventory, and identify opportunities for process improvement.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Analyze and monitor manufacturing, production, or service costs to identify trends and areas for efficiency.

    + Prepare detailed cost reports and support ongoing budgeting and forecasting activities.

    + Record and reconcile inventory, material, labor, and overhead costs.

    + Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities related to cost accounting.

    + Conduct variance analysis and communicate findings to management with recommendations.

    + Collaborate with teams to establish and maintain cost standards for products and services.

    + Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant accounting standards.

    + Support internal and external audits with cost documentation and reports.

    + Assist management in developing cost reduction strategies and streamlining operations.

    + Maintain accurate records in accounting systems and recommend process improvements.

    Requirements

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.

    + 2+ years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing or production environment.

    + Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, GAAP, and financial reporting.

    + Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

    + Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

    + Ability to work collaboratively across departments and meet deadlines.
