Job Title: Environmental Scientist
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Scientist or Engineer to support our Ambient Air Monitoring team in the Houston area. This role focuses on field operations, equipment maintenance, air monitoring data collection, and ensuring the highest standards of data quality and safety. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with air sampling, monitoring instrumentation, and environmental fieldwork.
Responsibilities
+ Operate, maintain, and repair ambient air monitoring and meteorological equipment across multiple project sites.
+ Calibrate sampling and monitoring instruments following manufacturer specifications and internal procedures.
+ Troubleshoot mechanical, electronic, and technical equipment issues as needed.
+ Deploy and collect ambient air samples from assigned field locations.
+ Complete all required documentation, including data sheets, calibration forms, chain‑of‑custody records, and logbooks.
+ Compile, organize, and process monitoring data using dashboards, spreadsheets, and related tools.
+ Maintain strict adherence to all Health & Safety procedures and site‑specific requirements.
+ Identify and investigate data discrepancies, taking corrective action to ensure accurate and reliable results.
+ Work independently and communicate effectively with project managers, team members, and clients.
+ Complete required Houston Area Safety Council (HASC) general and site-specific training courses.
Essential Skills
+ Strong report writing skills.
+ Expertise in environmental science, air testing, and ambient air monitoring.
+ Proficiency with gas chromatography.
+ Experience in meteorological monitoring.
+ Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting capabilities.
+ Proficiency in meter reading, calibration, and air sampling.
+ Possession of a valid, unencumbered U.S. driver’s license.
+ Ability to pass pre-employment checks, drug screening, motor vehicle record review, and any client-required screenings.
+ Eligibility for a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Environmental Science, or a related field.
+ Minimum of 3 years of experience collecting and sampling air pollutants in ambient or indoor environments.
+ Field monitoring experience including data review, validation, and reporting.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Work Environment
The role involves working in the field at gas facilities, in laboratories at these facilities, as well as in an office setting. There are multisite projects with options for flexible working hours, providing a dynamic and versatile work environment.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr.
