Job Title: CAD Drafter III
Job Description
We are seeking a CAD Drafter III with a passion for developing construction work packages for electric distribution systems using various software systems and construction standards. The role involves working on distribution systems in overhead (OH), underground (UG), or underground residential distribution (URD) environments. Projects may include major underground design, joint use, make-ready, and reliability projects. The work packages will be developed using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools, Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client systems. The candidate will perform engineering calculations involving structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault currents, and coordination of protective devices.
Responsibilities
+ Develop construction work packages for electric distribution systems.
+ Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis of poles and guying.
+ Prepare forestry trimming requests and facilitate permit and Right-of-Way acquisition.
+ Develop Bills of Materials (BOM) and estimate project costs.
+ Advocate for customers by acquiring easements and calculating customer Contributions in Aid of Construction (CIAC).
+ Design and construct electrical overhead and underground distribution systems (12kV through 35kV).
+ Comply with quality control and safe work practices, maintaining compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS, and distribution design tools.
+ Experience in power distribution, engineering, and utility design.
+ Knowledge of power delivery and electrical systems.
+ Ability to perform engineering calculations related to electric distribution systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with GIS, CAD, Civil 3D, PLS-CADD, and MicroStation.
+ Associate's Degree with 2+ years of experience in the power utility industry or a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Environmental Science, etc., with 2+ years of experience.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
+ Experience with medium voltage switchgear, voltage conversion projects, and distribution automation projects.
+ Development of civil and electrical packages for complex cable/conduit in dense urban environments.
Work Environment
This is an in-office position, offering a collaborative and professional setting where you will have access to state-of-the-art technology and systems to aid in the development of construction work packages.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $28.00/hr.
