    Job Summary

The Peleg Lab at the BioFrontiers Institute is seeking a Temporary Researcher to help pilot a new set of experiments on human rhythms and collective behavior. Our lab merges tools from physics, biology, engineering, and computer science to study communication and coordination in living systems, including honeybees and fireflies. We are located in the Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building (JSCBB) on East Campus. We anticipate a flexible schedule during the pilot phase. Training and all required materials will be provided.

Further information on the Peleg Lab can be found here: https://www.peleglab.com/ (https://apptrkr.com/get\_redirect.php?id=6855587&targetURL=https://www.peleglab.com/)

    Who We Are

At the University of Colorado BioFrontiers Institute, researchers from the life sciences, physical sciences, computer science, and engineering are working together to uncover new knowledge at the frontiers of science and partnering with industry to transform their discoveries into new tools. The Institute integrates faculty members from eleven academic departments, allowing them to work across fields. BioFrontiers drives innovation without boundaries.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

We are developing a creative, bio-inspired experimental framework that links ecological rhythm patterns to human group behavior. In this project, small groups of participants will be given rhythm "vocabularies" inspired by patterns that exist in an ecosystem. We will explore how groups generate, adapt, and transmit rhythms through clapping, drumming, and movement. These pilot experiments will help us build intuition and protocols for modeling the evolution of rhythmic communication in fireflies and other collective biological systems.

We are seeking a temporary researcher to assist in:

    1. Helping design and run small-group rhythm sessions.

    2. Guiding participants through structured clapping, drumming, and simple movement tasks.

    3. Supporting basic data collection, such as audio/video logging and notes on group dynamics.

    4. Contributing to early-stage protocol development and iteration.

    What You Should Know

A candidate has been identified for this position. However, all applications will be reviewed and considered before a final hiring decision is made.

+ Our preference is to find a temporary researcher who can work for the Spring semester.

+ We anticipate around 15 hours of work per week.

    What We Can Offer

    $20 per hour.

    Benefits

Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave (https://www.colorado.edu/hr/leave#sick-89) .

Be ambitious. Be groundbreaking. Be Boulder.

    What We Require

+ Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related field.

    What You Will Need

+ Experience or training in dance, rhythm, or movement-based practice.

+ Coursework or interest in ecology, evolution, or organismal biology.

+ Comfort facilitating small groups and communicating clearly.

    + Strong organization and reliability.

+ Interest in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of art, biology, and collective behavior.

    Special Instructions
