    Job Description

    Job Summary/Objective:

    The purpose of Southwire’s College Programs is to help early career professionals bring together formal learning and

     

    productive work to improve their ability to transition from school to work. Southwire provides interns and co-ops with

     

    •real world” applications of their academic studies, helpful feedback and coaching, and consideration for employment

     

    after graduation. Each student will have a variety of responsibilities and assigned projects that relate to their field of

     

    study and be responsible for developing a timeline, progress updates, and final delivery in a senior leadership expo.

     

    Note: All new interns and co-ops must begin in the summer rotation.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Your intern assignment is generally 10-12 weeks, and co-op assignment is generally 16-18 weeks and

     

    will include an assigned project and opportunities to present your work.

     

    • You will also collaborate on other exciting projects and work with talented peers and inspirational

     

    leaders, many of whom began as interns and co-ops themselves.

     

    • You will be provided a robust developmental experience through an immersive onboarding and

     

    offboarding experience, assigned a mentor, networking opportunities, organized events, activities, and

     

    community service /volunteer initiatives.

     

    • You will have the opportunity to impact the future of the organization, all the while being exposed to

    a world-class program community.

    Short Description

    Position Summary

    Engineering intern shall support Industrial New Product Development team initiatives at Southwire, in the Electric Vehicle and Telecom market verticals. Under limited direction, the successful candidate will perform a variety of complex engineering assignments requiring in-depth knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and industrial engineering.

     

    The Candidate will work along a Core Team Leader/Project Manager leading a team of diverse experiences and disciplines such as Product Management, Operations, Certification and Test labs towards the successful design, manufacturing, and commercialization of new products. The candidate shall adhere to and follow a Stage Gate development process to ensure that products are well designed and manufactured according to the highest standard of safety, quality, and regulatory codes. The individual will proactively seek and implement initiatives to improve operations and increase customer satisfaction.

    Key Responsibilities

    **•** Function as principal investigator or lead a group of engineers investigating problems, developing solutions, and preparing related recommendations and reports.

    • Execute Research & Development projects including planning, timeline forecast, budget management, logistics coordination using the “Stage Gate” process.

    • Collaborate with different partners within and outside the corporation. For example, manufacturing plants, test laboratories, customers, vendors, consultants, contractors, etc.

    • Lead projects with autonomy and personal accountability to conquer the science necessary to develop a product while being able to plan, visualize project milestones, anticipate lead times, and take the necessary actions for a timely project completion.

    • Comfortable with leading edge research, product enhancement, and process improvement in a time-constrained market-driven research and development environment.

    • Take initiative to recommend projects, product improvements, or cost reductions.

    • Represent the group in meetings and conferences; interact with customers to provide training seminars as well as resolve significant technical issues and develop related action plans.

    • Make formal technical presentations to customers and to industry forums and at conferences.

    • As required, be responsible for technical direction and minor administrative guidance of a small group of engineers and assistants.

    • Support manufacturing throughout the production cycle. This includes, but is limited to, creating testing plans, design handover meetings and solving problems on the manufacturing floor.

    Qualifications

    + Minimum 2.5 GPA.

    + Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in **any engineering discipline** .

    + Reliable transportation to and from work.

    + Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

    + Strong organization, planning, and analytical skills.

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or other relevanttools _._
