Job Summary and Qualifications
Integral member of the facility Transport Pool. Works with minimal supervision and high initiative as a member of the facility Transportation pool. Transporters are responsible for the safe and efficient transport of patients to and from various locations via bed, stretchers, and wheelchairs. Responsible for patient all elements of patient safety during transport. Represents facility with professionalism and attention to details of responsibilities. Expected to continuously provide service to requestors. Requested tasks include patient transfers, assisting at multiple department and POB locations relative to transport of patients, products, or any other materials requiring delivery when requested. Cooperates with all departments in this integral part of patient care. Requires a sense of ownership, and high initiative.
What you will do in this role:
+ Offers to give guests directions and answer their questions Helps co-workers create best possible visit for guests
+ Considers the thoughts, feelings and privacy of patients during transport
+ Serves as a liaison between peers and other departments fostering team work
+ Conveys a friendly and helpful affect when communicating by telephone
+ Converses actively with patients and families, being certain to refer all technical questions from patient to appropriate parties, i.e. Nurses, Technologists, etc.
+ Acknowledges patients and family, introduces self to patient, and explains reason for transport, etc. interacts with patient and family professionally. (AIDET)
+ Understands and manages interactions with difficult customers, maintaining composure and demeanor at all times.
+ Demonstrates proficiency in all aspects of the role of Transporter
+ Identifies Patients According to policy during Daily Operational functions:
+ Uses two forms of patient ID, checks armbands, and documents, introduces self and position to patients
+ Follows all directives of transport policies and transports patients as needed, as well as escorts out patients between depts. etc.
+ Responds promptly to Transport requests.
+ Prioritizes work load by procedure type i.e. differentiates need for STAT services, etc.
+ Works effectively as part of a team and supports the fair and efficient distribution of tasks at hand.
+ Always contacts appropriate nurse prior to entering patient room, and upon return trips.
+ Ensures patient comfort and safety during all transfers and transports.
+ Acts professional in the company of the patient and their family at all times.
+ Hands off patient at each destination according to policy guidelines by appropriately notifying receiving departments of patient arrival.
+ Informs patient of all events while responsible for the patient
+ Maintains efficient turnaround time for trips.
+ Stays alert to ER tracker and coordinates with team members , dispatcher, and shift supervisor the appropriate staff level to be present in ER.
+ Responsible for ensuring all monitoring equipment is returned with patients upon return to nursing units.
