This is an on-site, individual contributor position in Elyria, Ohio. A Bachelor's Degree is required.
Position Summary:
A Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) manages supplier performance to ensure quality, cost, and delivery requirements are met by improving supplier processes and resolving production issues. The SDE will report directly to the Site Supply Chain Manager. Key responsibilities include evaluating supplier capabilities, conducting audits, managing corrective actions, fostering supplier partnerships through on-site support, and driving cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives for both new and existing suppliers.
Essential Functions:
+ Supplier Selection & Onboarding:Evaluate new suppliers' capabilities, conduct technical and quality system audits, and assist in their onboarding process to ensure they meet company standards. Collaborates with the business unit to establish preferred supplier selection criteria based on supplier evaluations of price, competencies, quality, delivery, certifications, and compliance with governmental procurement regulations.
+ Performance Improvement:Develop and implement performance improvement plans for key suppliers, focusing on quality, delivery, and cost reduction.
+ Rate Readiness: Conduct and review Production Readiness and Risk Assessments (PRA) onsite at the supplier and provide improvement opportunities that helps to develop the partnership with FSD-E.
+ Quality Management:Oversee the production part approval process (PPAP), implement control plans, and ensure supplier compliance with quality standards
+ Problem Solving: Lead cross-functional teams to resolve technical, quality and delivery performance issues with suppliers, performing root cause analysis and driving robust countermeasures.
+ Relationship Management:Act as a key technical liaison between the company and suppliers, building strong partnerships to improve performance.
+ Cost Reduction:Identify opportunities to lower product costs and reduce supply risk by improving supplier processes Manage and lead supplier continuous improvement proposals.
+ Project Leadership:Play an active and leading role in various cross functional and independent projects through management, analysis, or data development – with the ultimate goal of developing into a collaborative and cooperative team player on an organization-wide level.
+ Technical Support:Provide technical assistance to suppliers, offering training and support to improve their manufacturing capabilities and quality systems.
+ Analytics:Analyze supplier quality and delivery metrics,and generate reports for senior management to highlight trends and performance gaps.
+ Domestic and international travel may be required, 20% of the time.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
+ Education: Bachelor's Degree in materials management, business, or engineering.
+ Experience: Minimum of 5 - 7 years of supplier development experience.
+ Technical Expertise:A strong background in engineering, manufacturing processes, quality systems, and relevant industry standards. Ability to read and interpret technical product drawings. Experience with PPAP and Quality System Improvements in the supply base. Manufacturing engineering experience preferred. Must be an innovator and embrace lean enterprises principles and practices.
+ Problem-Solving:Proven ability to conduct root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions, such as using A3 methodology.
+ Industry Knowledge:A solid understanding of industry market trends, manufacturing processes, and technological developments relevant to the company's products is important. Possess analytical and technical skills required to understand business practices.
+ Analytical Skills:Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop data-driven improvement plans. Exceptional analytical skills to tackle complex engineering problems are a must.
+ Communication & Interpersonal Skills:Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills to effectively communicate with suppliers, internal teams, and senior management.
+ Detail-Oriented & Self-Motivated:Capable of managing multiple priorities and working effectively in a fast-paced environment. The ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks and projects is crucial.
+ Leadership: Ability to influence, lead, and drive cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.
+ Computer Proficiency: Must have advanced computer skills and be able to understand electronic processing. Technically proficient in Excel, PowerBI, and ERP systems.

Please note that the salary range information is only applicable for California, Massachusetts, New York, Washington. Compensation is based on a variety of factors, candidate experience, qualifications, location as well as market and business considerations.
Please note the internal job title for this position is Subcontract Procurement Specialist but will function as a Supplier Development team member.
