    Alexandria’s Life Science Team serves a highly strategic role at the intersection of Alexandria’s real estate, venture investment, thought leadership, and regional business development activities to grow and support the local innovation clusters in which we operate.

     

    Alexandria’s strategic venture capital activities, conducted through Alexandria Venture Investments, allow the Company to discover and invest in biotech and innovation-driven life science companies. As a member of the Life Science Team, the Associate’s activities will include sourcing and underwriting venture investment and potential life science and technology tenants and monitoring existing tenants through a review of scientific milestones, press releases, and financial statements, as well as periodic meetings with senior management. The Associate’s due diligence responsibilities for potential investments include assessing the competitive landscape of their therapeutic areas and the strength of innovation of their technology platforms. Regional business development activities also include preparing for and organizing Alexandria-led thought leadership and ecosystem-building events that convene, accelerate, and enable the growth of life science activities in Greater Boston.

     

    We are seeking an Associate to support Alexandria’s Greater Boston operations by providing additional research, analysis, and industry expertise in support of venture investment, tenant underwriting, and other due diligence and business development activities. The Associate may be asked to support life science initiatives in Alexandria’s other North American markets from time to time.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    + Assist in scientific and financial diligence and underwriting of prospective tenants for Alexandria’s portfolio, including monitoring of various performance indicators relevant to companies in Alexandria’s network.

    + Contribute to Alexandria’s venture capital activity by supporting related due diligence and composing investment reports and memos.

    + Conduct research and analyze performance indicators for specific tenants, investments, or other companies of interest.

    + Participate and support one-on-one meetings with prospective and current portfolio companies, ongoing evaluation of their research and development plans and fundraising efforts, review of pitch decks, etc.

    + Engage in business development and networking activities across the local life science ecosystem and provide periodic support to other regions as needed.

    + Conduct in-depth research relevant to various disease and therapeutic areas, capital markets, U.S. healthcare and regulatory activities, and broader trends in the life science and technology industries.

    Other Responsibilities:

    + Collaborate cross-functionally across Alexandria’s leasing, accounting, finance, and regional leadership teams to support core business objectives and strategic initiatives.

    + Prepare correspondence, background information, and/or copy for event materials as needed.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    + Bachelor’s degree in a life science-related field required. Master’s or PhD a plus.

    + Minimum 4 years’ prior work experience (or equivalent educational experience, e.g., PhD work) within the life science industry; experience in venture investment, investment banking, consulting, and/or business development preferred.

    + Solid understanding of the life science and broader healthcare industry, including, but not limited to, chemistry and biology fundamentals, the drug development process, the U.S. healthcare and regulatory landscape, venture and equity financing, and human disease.

    + Knowledge of capital markets and finance a plus.

    + Strong research and analytical skills, as well as high attention to detail.

    + Ability to work independently and to effectively manage and organize multiple projects concurrently.

    + Excellent written communication skills a must, along with the ability to create concise and impactful written reports, correspondence, and responses to requests from team members and executive-level members within the Company.

    + Ability to communicate and collaborate with coworkers, management, and others in a courteous and professional manner.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. Capabilities in Salesforce, Tableau, PitchBook, Evaluate Pharma, and other industry databases a plus.

    + Occasional travel to Alexandria’s other North American regions may be required.

     

    The expected base salary range for this position is $150,000 to $190,000 USD annually, plus annual discretionary bonus. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the consideration of many factors, which may include, but are not limited to: the individual’s knowledge, experience, education, qualifications, skills, job location, and the Company’s compensation practices.
