    Tooling Engineer

    Job Overview

    The Inspection Tooling Engineer is responsible for designing, validating, and supporting the measurement tools and methods used to ensure product quality throughout the manufacturing process. This role bridges product design, manufacturing, quality engineering, and supplier quality teams to create accurate, reliable, and ergonomic inspection solutions. You will translate engineering requirements into practical tools, support metrology validation, document specifications, and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal quality system standards.

    Job Duties

    + Design simple to moderately complex inspection tools, gauges, and fixtures for in‑process, final, and incoming inspection.

    + Translate drawings, tolerances, and GD&T requirements into effective inspection methods.

    + Ensure tools are accurate, repeatable, ergonomic, and suitable for routine manufacturing use.

    + Interpret and apply GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5.

    + Support design‑for‑inspectability efforts with Product Design Engineering.

    + Ensure inspection methods align with datums, feature control frames, and tolerance intent.

    + Support Gage R&R and MSA activities for inspection tool qualification.

    + Confirm tools meet required accuracy and repeatability based on product risk.

    + Assist with measurement investigations and out‑of‑tolerance evaluations.

    + Partner with Quality Engineering to ensure tools are fit‑for‑purpose.

    + Create and release engineering drawings and specifications for inspection tools and fixtures.

    + Define critical dimensions, tolerances, materials, and surface finishes.

    + Maintain documentation following internal document control and change‑management procedures.

    + Apply knowledge of materials, wear, durability, elastic deformation, and thermal effects in tool design.

    + Select appropriate materials based on accuracy, environment, and usage conditions.

    + Collaborate with Product Design Engineering to clarify measurement requirements and critical features.

    + Support Manufacturing and Quality Engineering during process validation and product release.

    + Assist Supplier Quality and Incoming Inspection by developing necessary tools and inspection methods.

    + Ensure all inspection tools and processes comply with ISO 13485 and FDA 21 CFR 820.

    + Follow internal design control, validation, and tooling management procedures.

    + Support internal and external audits related to inspection and measurement systems.

    Required Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.

    + At least 3 years of experience designing tooling within a regulated environment.

    + Working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5).

    + Experience supporting Gage R&R or MSA activities.

    + Ability to create clear engineering drawings for tools or fixtures.

    + Familiarity with medical device manufacturing and inspection practices.

    + Proficiency in SolidWorks

     

    Job Type & Location

     

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Miami, FL.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
