Medical Assistant

Job Description

The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for performing various duties and assisting the physician in an office setting. This role involves direct interaction with patients and requires a high level of customer service.

Responsibilities

+ Greet and escort patients to exam rooms.

+ Prepare exam rooms according to rooming standards.

+ Interview patients and measure vital signs such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, recording the information on patients' charts.

+ Instruct patients on preparation for tests and procedures.

+ Record laboratory, x-ray, ECG results, and other pertinent medical data in patients' charts.

+ Handle incoming and outgoing mail, ensuring the physician sees all necessary information.

+ Clean and stock exam rooms, including monthly instrument cleaning, sterilization, and refilling of supplies as necessary.

+ Handle patient telephone calls as directed by the Triage Nurse.

+ Screen patient calls to the physician and relay advice, information, and instructions from the physician to patients.

+ Call in prescriptions and refills to pharmacies under physician direction.

+ Schedule special appointments such as referrals, surgeries, x-rays, and lab tests.

+ Assess and schedule appointments for patients.

+ Communicate politely and clearly with callers, patients, physicians, and staff, reflecting a high standard of customer service.

+ Abstract medical information on patients into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

Essential Skills

+ Certified or Registered Medical Assistant certification.

+ Experience in medical assisting, clinic operations, and charting.

+ Proficiency in using Electronic Health Records, specifically EPIC.

+ Experience in triage.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ 1 year of clinic experience preferred.

Work Environment

The position is located in a large local clinic with 31 providers, including 6 mid-level providers, covering family practice and internal medicine. The clinic offers a lab and radiology department on site. The work schedule consists of a 4-day work week, with varying hours between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., totaling 36 to 40 hours per week for full-time medical assistants. There are no weekend or holiday shifts. Start times may vary between 7:30 or 8 a.m., with end times at 5 p.m. or 5:30 p.m.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Appleton, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00/hr.
