Job Title: Combination Welder $30- $32

    Job Description

The TIG Welder is responsible for precision welding on small-diameter pipe and thin-gauge sheet metal using the GTAW (TIG) process. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, steady hand control, and the ability to produce clean, high-quality welds on stainless steel, carbon steel, and/or aluminum depending on project needs. The welder must read blueprints, prepare materials, and perform fit-ups with accuracy to meet exacting fabrication standards.

    Responsibilities

+ Perform high-precision TIG welding on small-diameter pipe (typically under 2") and thin sheet metal, including stainless or aluminum.

+ Set up and operate TIG welding equipment, including gas flow, tungsten selection, and amperage control.

+ Weld in various positions (horizontal, vertical, overhead) as required for pipe and sheet assemblies.

+ Fit, tack, and fabricate assemblies according to drawings and weld procedures.

+ Ensure distortion control and heat management for thin materials.

+ Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, pipe routing drawings, and cut sheets.

+ Verify part dimensions, tolerances, weld joint prep, and orientation prior to welding.

+ Prep small pipe and sheet metal: edge bevels, cleaning, deburring, polishing, and joint alignment.

+ Perform visual inspection of welds to ensure proper penetration, clean bead profile, and no porosity or weld defects.

+ Conduct leak checks or integrity tests when required (air, water, or pressure testing).

+ Complete rework when necessary with minimal material impact.

+ Maintain TIG machines, gas regulators, hoses, torches, and consumables.

+ Follow all safety guidelines, PPE use, and shop protocols.

+ Keep work area organized and free of hazards.

    Essential Skills

+ 2+ years TIG welding experience.

+ Demonstrated ability to weld small-diameter pipe and thin-gauge metals without warping.

+ Proficient in reading blueprints and welding symbols.

+ Ability to perform precise fit-ups and maintain weld consistency.

+ Strong understanding of metallurgy and heat-affected zone control.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience with stainless sanitary tubing, HVAC piping, or precision sheet-metal fabrication.

+ Familiarity with purge setups for stainless pipe welding.

+ AWS certifications (GTAW) are a plus.
