Summary This vacancy is for a GP-0602-14, Physician GP-0602-14 located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, CG Accessions Service Center in WASHINGTON, District of Columbia. Responsibilities You will serve as a Physician GP-0602-14 and be responsible for ensuring applicants meet Coast Guard medical accession or retention standards as appropriate through thorough review of medical records. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Review and make recommendations to submissions of medical waiver requests for all Coast Guard Accession programs, such as enlistment, commissioning programs. Request, as required, additional medical information, records, evaluations, consultations, studies, labs, tests, etc., required to make a waiver recommendation based on available medical information. Coordinate and discuss waiver request cases and reserve retention cases with a variety of authorized personnel. Coordinate, discuss, and respond to questions of inquiries regarding waiver request cases and reserve retention cases with a variety of authorized personnel guidelines, policies and laws. Record brief, articulate notes in the electronic system of record, summarizing relevant medical facts, information, consultations, conversations, and considerations as they pertain to the applicant's case, the relevant program and the waiver or retention recommendations. Review, edit, and/or approve correspondence prepared by CG ASC support staff, and draft correspondence regarding waiver recommendations and retention recommendations. Provide disposition of retention waivers and informal physical evaluation boards in collaboration with the Medical Administration Branch. Engage in extensive and frequent contact with medical support staff responsible for applicants' and service members' medical findings. Qualifications Basic Requirements: This position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience in order to be found minimally qualified. Transcripts must be submitted with your application package. You MUST meet the following requirements: EDUCATION: Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association(external link); Association of American Medical Colleges(external link); Liaison Committee on Medical Education(external link); Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates(external link), a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the federal or private sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.
