• Manual Software Test Engineer

    Job Description

    We are seeking a Manual Software Test Engineer to support testing for Illumina’s instrument software used in DNA sequencing platforms. This role focuses on executing manual test cases, validating hardware–software interactions, and ensuring high-quality releases in collaboration with software engineering and cross‑functional teams.

    Responsibilities

    Execute manual test cases for instrument software, including hardware‑software integration and user workflows.

     

    Perform exploratory testing to uncover defects and edge cases.

     

    Validate firmware updates, calibration routines, and hardware subsystem behavior.

     

    Support regression testing and maintain test plans and test cases.

     

    Document results clearly with logs, screenshots, and reproducible steps; update Jira reports.

     

    Collaborate with software engineers and participate in sprint ceremonies, providing testing updates and surfacing risks.

    Skills and Requirements

    Qualifications

    3+ years of manual testing experience, with integrated hardware/software systems.

     

    BS/MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related STEM field.

     

    Hands‑on experience with instruments, lab equipment, or embedded systems.

     

    Strong defect documentation skills and familiarity with Jira, Jama, or similar tools.

     

    Comfortable with command‑line workflows and basic Linux usage. Experience with medical device equipment
