Job Description
Overview:
Insight Global is looking for a PCB Layout Designer to support one of our largest and most innovative clients within the Energy Storage Industry. In this role, you’ll take ownership of PCB layouts for mixed‑signal, power‑management, and controller boards that enable next‑generation energy‑storage technologies. You’ll work hands‑on in Altium to drive placement, routing, and stack-up development while enforcing high‑speed, power‑integrity, and manufacturability requirements. Daily collaboration with electrical, mechanical, and test teams will be key as you translate schematics into clean, production‑ready designs, optimize for EMC/ESD performance, and ensure accurate sensing for battery‑management circuitry. You’ll also manage ECAD libraries, generate full fabrication and assembly documentation, support board bring‑up, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts as the team rapidly iterates toward high‑volume manufacturing.
Day to Day:
- Own PCB layout for mixed‑signal, power‑management, and controller boards.
- Use Altium daily for placement, routing, stack-up, constraints, and ECAD library upkeep.
- Route high‑speed nets (~10 Mb/s+) with controlled impedance, matched lengths, and clean return paths.
- Implement robust power routing: pours, via stitching, decoupling, and thermal considerations.
- Apply DFM/DFA/DFT rules; coordinate with fabrication and assembly vendors.
- Generate complete build packages (Gerbers/ODB++/IPC‑2581, BOM, drawings).
- Collaborate closely with EE/ME/Test teams and drive ECOs from prototype to production.
- Perform SI/PI checks; tune routing for impedance, skew, and EMC/ESD robustness.
- Design with EMC/EMI best practices: solid reference planes, filtered entry points, minimized loop area.
- Support accurate battery‑management sensing (voltage/current/temperature) through clean analog routing.
- Maintain documentation (stack-up tables, fab notes, assembly notes).
- Assist with board bring‑up and lab troubleshooting when needed.
- Stay current on Altium advances, high‑speed techniques, and manufacturing process updates.
