Role Value Proposition:
The position sits within the newly consolidated Data and Analytics (D&A) organization supporting the U.S. Business of MetLife. U.S. D&A assists all business lines of MetLife’s U.S. business (about 2/3 of MetLife Global by earnings) with everything related to data, analytics and data science, from data infrastructure, data governance, data engineering, data modeling, data analysis, to business intelligence, data science, and AI.
MetLife is seeking an experienced Director of Data and Analytics to work with the re-enrollment strategy team within the Group Benefits business, responsible for identifying growth opportunities and strategies to engage existing US Group customers (employers and brokers) each year to achieve annual re-enrollment goals.
This individual will lead the "Business Engagement Platform" and "Data Science" team report within the DnA US Business organization, collaborate with key stakeholders on the US technology re-enrollment strategy team and the Marketing and Engagement Strategy program teams, and ensure that Data and AI solutions enable key business goals and values. This role will deliver DnA solutions across all Group Products to unlock the full potential of Data and AI, driving operational excellence and a competitive edge in sales and marketing analytics. The role spans all relevant D&A functions, from data infrastructure design and data engineering/modeling/analysis/Business Intelligence to data science and daily support for all deliverables. Your expertise in data, AI/analytics, and technology will be instrumental in ensuring that businesses remain competitive, secure, and adaptable in a rapidly evolving business landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
* Strategic leadership: Serve as a vital member of the extended Engagement Strategy leadership and governance team, participating in strategic planning and goal setting. Build strategic partnerships with key business, Technology, and other leaders.
* Team Development & Cultural Transformation: Lead the cultural shift from a traditional technology-focused data team to a business-outcome-driven mindset. Develop training programs to build marketing and customer domain knowledge, as well as communication skills. Redesign performance metrics to emphasize business impact and stakeholder satisfaction.
* Initiative delivery: Co-develop and execute the data and analytics roadmap aligned with the re-enrollment strategy team and engagement program objectives and enterprise data strategy.
* Opportunity assessment: Successful delivery of a business intelligence platform that can serve as a unified source for employer and employee insights, including re-enrollment and participation analytics by enabling AI-ready data and advanced analytics techniques that expand the breadth and depth of growth opportunity analysis aligned to Sales and Marketing Analytics strategy
* Plan and deliver the Strategic Business Analytics and AI solutions, including Business Intelligence, Self Service reporting/dashboarding, Propensity models, Sales Analytics, and Marketing Analytics by partnering with business, technology, and marketing partners.
* Lead the ideation and exploration of an LLM/AI-based data management and reporting solution to improve efficiency and speed to market.
* Data hub and reporting modernization: Continue building a new data hub that supports the re-enrollment strategy team’s goals and objectives.
* Dashboards and reporting: Rationalize and migrate manual data sources to the new data infrastructure, and design and operational dashboards to meet business needs and KPIs to measure the opportunity assessment.
* Data Science/AI: Ideate, design, and execute various data science solutions that provide meaningful business outcomes, in collaboration with major stakeholders. (e.g. benchmarking, utilization reporting, propensity Models, CLTV Values, lapse analysis)
* Governance and data expertise: Establish governance frameworks for data modeling, metadata, data quality, and related regulatory compliance. Create D&A-side data owners and data stewards who function as data community leaders and facilitators for disability-related data domains to tackle highly complex and routine data decisions.
* Establish and facilitate effective governance through best-practice lean-agile management routines and cadences to engage critical cross-functional executives and stakeholders in ongoing business management and program-level decision-making.
* Global team and resource management: Fully integrate a global team by balancing U.S. employees, India-based employees (both in multiple locations), and consulting resources. Drive consistent culture and performance standards to maximize effectiveness. Design career development paths for high-potential talent.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
Required:
* Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related quantitative field, or a B.S. degree with continuing education could be equivalent.
* 10+ years of progressive experience in advanced data analytics and/or AI leadership
* 5+ years of insurance business and/or financial industry experience with sales, marketing, and/or customer engagement analytics.
* 7+ years’ experience in Data and Analytics focused on Simplified data, Business Intelligence, and Advanced Analytics delivery
* 5+ years’ experience in advanced analytics, statistical modeling, and data science, including classical, modern (ML/non-parametric), and/or AI methodologies. Proficiency in statistical programming languages (Python, R).
* Expertise in data engineering, data governance, and Data/ML Ops and related software and procedures. Proficiency in SQL.
* Expertise in Business Intelligence, including creating and maintaining custom and standard reporting and dashboard packages. Proficiency in some related software packages (Tableau, Power BI, etc.)
* Experience with Hadoop, Databricks, and/or MS Azure.
* Proven track record of leading analytics teams and delivering business value via creative data solutions while interacting with many stakeholders in a complex organization.
* Excellence in stakeholder management and executive communication
Preferred:
* Experience with employee benefits plans is a plus.
* Experience working with Big 4 consulting firms.
