This position is a BOCES base-service role designed to provide centralized counseling, coordination, and student support services across participating component school districts.

The School Counselor plays a critical role in ensuring student success by providing academic guidance, social-emotional support, and program navigation for students enrolled in dual enrollment and early college coursework, while serving as a liaison among students, districts, partner institutions of higher education (IHEs), and BOCES. While specific responsibilities may vary based on needs, key duties include:

+ Provide academic, career, and social-emotional counseling services to students enrolled in Early College Access courses.

+ Support students in understanding the academic expectations, rigor, and responsibilities associated with college-level coursework.

+ Assist students with course planning, sequencing, and alignment to high school graduation requirements and postsecondary goals.

+ Monitor student progress and intervene, in collaboration with districts and instructors, when academic or social-emotional concerns arise.

    Early College Program Coordination

+ Support communication related to enrollment, registration, reporting, and general program logistics.

+ Assist with student onboarding processes, including orientation to college expectations, policies, and support structures.

+ Collaborate with BOCES administrators and staff to ensure consistent implementation of Early College Access programming across districts.

    District & Partner Collaboration

+ Work collaboratively with district counselors, administrators, and instructional staff to support student participation and success.

+ Act as a conduit between BOCES and partner colleges/IHEs regarding student supports, reporting requirements, and program communication.

+ Participate in Early College Access network meetings, planning sessions, and professional learning activities as required.

    Compliance, Reporting & Program Support

+ Support BOCES compliance with NYSED guidance related to Early College Access Co-SER services.

+ Maintain appropriate documentation related to student participation and counseling services.

+ Assist with data collection and reporting needs related to program evaluation and continuous improvement.

+ Participate in BOCES-provided professional development related to early college programming, counseling practices, and student support.

    Job Qualifications

    Required:

+ Valid New York State School Counselor Certification.

+ Experience of providing counseling services to secondary-level students.

+ Demonstrated knowledge of academic planning, graduation requirements, and postsecondary pathways.

+ Strong interpersonal, organization, and communication skills.

+ Ability to work collaboratively across multiple districts and partner organizations.

    Preferred:

+ Experience with dual enrollment, early college, or postsecondary transition programs.

+ Familiarity with college credit-bearing coursework and partnerships with institutions of higher education.

+ Experience working in a shared services or regional education model (e.g., BOCES).

The responsibilities listed in this job description cannot be considered to be all-inclusive; they are guidelines to help identify the major elements of the job. Specific assignments will be reviewed and changes will be made as needed.d
