General Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s degree preferred. Five years of experience in a related field. Experience in a professional school or college admission counseling/recruitment is preferred. Proven experience and track record of success in management positions, providing leadership, oversight, strategic direction, and implementation. Experience with admissions at a College of Medicine and, more specifically, a College of Osteopathic Medicine preferred. Knowledge of Sam Houston State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine student recruitment activities, admissions policies, and university procedures would be helpful. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
This individual oversees the planning, organizing, and direction of the day-to-day operations of Admissions and Recruitment for Sam Houston State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine ( SHSU - COM ) with the oversight of the Director of Enrollment Services for the COM . Performs advanced complex managerial work providing direction and guidance in strategic operations and planning in the Enrollment Services for the COM department. This individual should be a team player who values radical cooperation, mutual support, and team cohesion. The COM’s Associate Director of Admissions and Recruitment will need good interpersonal skills to work successfully with various individuals and organizations.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
Develops, implements, evaluates and supports SHSU - COM -approved admissions policies and procedures, oversee compliance, and ensure that they are adhered to throughout the admissions process. Directs the following program activities of staff in Enrollment Services for the SHSU College of Osteopathic Medicine ( COM ): recruitment, secondary and post-secondary pipeline programs, Joint Admission Medical Program ( JAMP ), admissions application processes, interview days, campus preview days (second look), and other enrollment-related services for the College of Osteopathic Medicine. Attends and supports the COM Admissions Committee and Admissions process to ensure that SHSU - COM fills the class with highly qualified individuals to advance the mission each year. Oversees the on-site admissions processes for SHSU - COM . Completes all required SHSU - COM -specific reporting to AACOM , COCA , Dean, and Admissions Committee. On-site education of the admissions process for a College of Osteopathic Medicine, University, and community. Collaborates with the Admissions Committee to annually develop or update the Technical Standards for SHSU - COM for recommendation to Dean. Collaborates with the Admissions Committee to annually update the policies and processes for SHSU - COM for recommendation to Dean. Ensures that all on-site interviews, as well as all communications, adhere to COCA standards as well as policies and procedures of SHSU - COM . Submits an annual Report to the Dean and ensure that the final approved copy is posted on the SHSU - COM website.
Ensures that the admissions recruiters attend selected local, regional, and national recruitment events as approved by the Director of Enrollment Services. Collaborates with state, regional, and nationwide organizations to promote osteopathic medicine. Supports the on-site admissions recruiters in the selection of marketing-related materials (i.e., recruitment brochures and promotional items “swag”) as needed to recruit. Serves as the representative of SHSU - COM on the AACOM Admissions Group. Ensures that MCAT lists are attained biannually and that Dean-approved marketing messages are delivered to prospective students. Assists the Dean in accreditation functions, including document creation, data collection, data entry, education of staff on accreditation, and other accreditation-related tasks at the discretion of the Dean. Participates in various campus and COM committees, professional training, industry conferences, and conventions as needed. Makes decisions independently under the authority of the Director when the Director is absent. Acts as the liaison between the department and internal or external stakeholders and participates in activities involving projecting the University and the COM’s image to the public. Plays a key leadership role within Enrollment Services for the College of Osteopathic Medicine and assists with developing goals and objectives. Develops and reviews budget expenditures. Performs other related duties as assigned
