    Position Summary

    The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) is a hands-on role primarily responsible for the management and implementation of the Bank’s SQL database environment, including administration, change control, and business continuity . This senior level role is one of two on the team, sharing responsibility for this functional area and must have the ability to be self-guided with minimal supervision, while supporting the Bank’s strategic projects. This role is primarily an operational support role, handling daily tasks and also supporting various projects requiring a database environment and must be familiar with supporting and building database environments in the AWS cloud.

     

    As supporting skillsets, the abilities to collaborate and communicate well, take accountability, and the desire to aim high, while positively engaging and contributing within a team environment is essential to support the Bank Technology’s vision; “Enabling the Bank’s mission by delivering agile, secure, cost-efficient information technology solutions.”

     

    This role will have a hybrid work schedule in our Boston office in accordance with the Bank’s Hybrid Work Program. More time will be expected in the office to support onboarding initially. This role will have schedule flexibility during the Bank's core business hours given the database support work that will need to happen during evenings and weekends.

     

    This position is classified as sensitive and is subject to a credit check.

     

    Anticipated Pay Range

     

    The anticipated base pay range for this rol e is $98k - $161k

     

    This role is based in Boston with weekly in-office expectations. The base pay posted represents the annual base pay range or hourly wage range that we expect to offer for this job opportunity. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including relevant experience, required skills and other relevant factors. The range noted here is not indicative of all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.

     

    All Bank full-time positions are eligible to participate in our annual incentive program and our robust total rewards offerings, in addition to the base pay.

    Specific Responsibilities

    • Accountability and ownership of the Bank’s AWS database environments, including administration, change control, database restores and design.

    • Must be adept with writing SQL queries, optimization of databases, storage and performance.

    • As the Bank begins to leverage Microsoft Fabric as a new cloud-based data platform, having the skillset to support Fabric, with its data warehousing and analytics capabilities will be necessary.

    • Participate in managing vendor relationships, contracts, invoicing and renewal processes for all aspects of the database environment, equipment and applications.

    • Ensures that daily validation of the Bank’s database environment and supporting jobs and tasks are completed.

    • Ensure day-to-day work requests and tasks are organized, prioritized and completed.

    • Proactively strives to gain an understanding of the Bank’s databases and database architectural environment.

    • Conducts all work within the confines of the Bank’s policies and standards.

    • Reports task and assignment progress to management and project managers.

    • Periodic off-hours and weekend work supporting production systems as well as patching and maintenance is expected.

    • Provide detailed, professional technical documentation.

    • Other duties, as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge/Skills

    • Ability to implement and support SQL databases in the AWS cloud according to best practice.

    • Have a basic understanding of how to create, manage, and optimize Fabric Lakehouse and Warehouse, including table structures, data ingestion, and storage organization. Training will be provided if necessary.

    • Ability to write and optimize SQL queries in Microsoft Fabric, monitor query performance, and troubleshoot bottlenecks using Fabric monitoring tools. Training will be provided if necessary.

    • Demonstrate strong critical thinking skills for complex problem resolution as well as excellent organizational and prioritization skills.

    • Strong technical documentation skills.

    • Effectively communicate technical solutions from business requirements.

    • Ability to work as part of a team and as an individual contributor.

    • Must be a self-starter with excellent planning and organizational skills and can exercise independent judgment with minimum supervision while participating in various complex and sometimes concurrent projects from inception through completion.

    • A high level of responsiveness to the customer to build trust and credibility.

    • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, specifically the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively.

    • Basic familiarity of the AWS cloud environment and a willingness to build upon this foundation.

    Education

    • B.S. degree with a Computer Science related curriculum or equivalent experience is required.

    Experience

    • 3-5 years of SQL support and administration in the AWS cloud.

    • Ability and willingness to learn Infrastructure as a Service, (IaaS), in support of an agile and DevOps methodology.

    • Hands on exposure working with databases in the AWS or Azure cloud.

    • Exposure to Microsoft Fabric strongly preferred.

    • Informatica administration / development preferred, but not required.

    • Exposure to a financial services or other highly regulated environment preferred.
