Superior Water, Light and Power (SWL&P), an ALLETE company, provides electricity, water, and natural gas to customers in Superior, Wisconsin, and adjacent areas. Its offices are in Superior in northwestern Wisconsin across the St. Louis River from Duluth, Minnesota, where ALLETE is headquartered. RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Maintain safe operation and efficiency of customer and Company equipment.
+ Ensure customer and employee safety by meeting all standards required by regulations.
+ Handle system troubleshooting on company meters (gas and water), regulators and distribution piping.
+ Perform safety checks and repair work on customer gas piping and gas heating equipment.
+ Investigate gas and water leaks on system mains, services and related equipment, as well as on customer premises.
+ Set and remove gas and water meters and associated equipment.
+ Test gas and water meters and associated equipment to ensure billing accuracy.
+ Complete PSC regulated gas work such as: gas leak surveys, gas piping corrosion checks, etc.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
+ High school diploma or equivalent
+ Two-year associate's degree in HVAC or Gas Utility and Service Technical Certificate or diploma strongly preferred.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
+ Two or more years of work-related experience in troubleshooting and repairing gas appliances, furnaces and boilers, or related work is required
+ Possess an understanding of electronics, electrical schematics, and ladder diagrams
+ Knowledge of National Fuel Gas Code and experience in appliance venting and gas piping is desired
Apprenticeship step decided based on experience, only, for all candidates For external candidates: Level to be determined based on experienced and qualifications
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
+ This position will report regularly in person to Superior, WI
+ Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Medical Certificate.
+ The two-year HVAC degree is not required, but candidate will need to go through the apprenticeship process.
+ This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
+ The expected hourly compensation range for this apprenticeship is $37.70 – $50.26. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, and experience.
