    Line Technician Apprenticeship

     

    This position is part of a formal apprenticeship program within the Line Technician trade. As such, pay for this position will begin at **$42.91/hour** and will progress throughout the duration of the apprenticeship based on the schedule below.

     

    + Step 1 - $42.91/hr (1 st year)

    + Step 2 - $44.56/hr (1 st year)

    + Step 3 - $46.21/hr (2 nd year)

    + Step 4 - $47.86/hr (2 nd year)

    + Step 5 - $54.46/hr (3 rd year)

    + Step 6 - $56.11/hr (3 rd year)

    + Step 7 - $57.76/hr (4 th year)

    + Step 8 - $59.41/hr (4 th year)

    + Journey Level Turnout - $66.01/hr

     

    Our Electric Construction and Maintenance group is hiring a Line Technician Apprentice! This challenging and rewarding career is responsible for the construction, operation, and maintenance of high voltage overhead and underground electric lines. You will be responsible for performing skilled activities in the installation, maintenance, switching, and removal of overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems and residential and arterial street lighting systems. During the apprenticeship program, you will develop a working knowledge of line equipment, apparatus, and wiring, as well as install, maintain, test, adjust, and repair overhead and underground electrical lines.

    As you progress through this apprenticeship program, you will become proficient in the following:

    + Installing underground or overhead electrical lines by laying pipe, pulling wire, and setting meters

    + Constructing, maintaining, and testing electrical systems and related equipment

    + Repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting street light systems, poles, luminaries, and circuits

    + Switching or rerouting electrical systems using proper sequencing and connections

    + Ensuring compliance with safety standards and work practices

    + Operating line construction vehicles and equipment including wire-pullers, bucket and boom trucks, and various hand tools

    + Preparing materials for line construction and charging materials to the appropriate job

    + Logging completed work orders and preparing reports

    + Operating equipment including backhoes, thermo scan cameras, trenchers, and hand tools

    Please note that working conditions and essential functions of performing this job include:

    + Performing work in confined spaces and elevated areas (e.g., bucket and boom trucks)

    + Availability to work overtime as necessary

    + Subject to after-hours callout

    Who You Are

    + Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver’s license is **_required_**

    + Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is **_required_**

    + Possession of a High School Diploma or GED is **_required_** - the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) requires possession of either to participate in a DOL registered apprenticeship program

    + Demonstrated experience in a construction, skilled trade, or manual labor environment is **_valued_**

    + Knowledge of basic electrical theory and practice, industrial electronics, electrical systems, and/or a certificate of completion from a line school is **_valued_**

    + Possession of any of the following certifications are **_valued_** : Medical Examination, First Aid, CPR, and/or Flagger

     

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

     

    Exerts in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Heavy Work.Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, workspace restrictions and intense noises.
